  • Here’s another comment from Damian Lewis about the supposed “British Invasion” of American network television this fall; Damian is quoted as saying “I think it’s a nonstory. It’s the center of the global film industry out here, not just the American one. And I’m afraid you’ve had foreigners infiltrating ever since it started 100 years ago. It’s where you come and do very good work. It’s where talented people come, and it’s where they’re rewarded well for what they do.”
  • Helen McCrory will star as Dr. Victoria Frankenstein on ITV1 this October in an updated version of the classic Frankenstein monster story. This Sunday, September 2nd, she will appear as Cherie Blair on ITV1 in Helen Mirren’s acclaimed film The Queen.

  • This Hollywood Reporter article details several of the “alternative media” options that will be available for viewing the pilot episodes of NBC’s new fall dramas including Life starring Damian Lewis, prior to the US network premiere on September 26th!

“…The free sampling strategy clearly is on the rise this year following major successes during the past few years.

NBC, which is utilizing the tactic most aggressively, is offering downloads of the premiere episodes of the new dramas “Chuck,” “Life” and “Journeyman” on Amazon.com starting Sept. 10.

Also around that date, the 4 million members of Facebook’s Apple students group will be able to exclusively download the three premiere episodes on iTunes. A week later, the iTunes downloads will be widely available.

NBC also is making the premiere episodes of “Chuck,” “Life” and “Journeyman” as well as “Bionic Woman” available as free VOD offerings on about 30 cable and satellite systems, including Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and Dish Network starting Sept. 10. A week later, streaming video of the “Life” pilot will be exclusively available on AOL, “Journeyman” on MSN and “Chuck” on Yahoo.

There also will be one more online sampling program starting Sept. 4 that involves a partnership with a major retailer, but NBC declined to provide specific details. Additionally, NBC will screen the full premiere episodes of “Journeyman” and “Chuck” on United Airlines flights…”
  • Cast your votes for Life at the TV.com and BuddyTV sites!
  • Thanks to Suzanne for her poem “A Month to Go” in anticipation of the September 26th premiere of Life:

    A month to go

    Oh Now Lo
    On yonder moonlight breaks
Our Shakespearian trained actor with so many cakes to bake.
It is the West, and Damian in the sun…

Just one more month to go
    Before you steal the show

    One more month to go
Before the critics gnash their teeth with woe and
    Eat their dinners of crow…

Click here to enjoy the rest of her imaginative tale!

  • This blogger’s comments (below) about Damian’s new NBC drama Life has rekindled the debate about a possible resemblance between Steve McQueen and Damian Lewis; what’s your opinion?

Whether or not you see a resemblance there’s no denying that the above images are of two very attractive and talented men! ;)

Damian Lewis “…stars as a cop who was wrongly sentenced to life in prison for a triple murder. After twelve years he’s released, given millions of dollars, and goes about setting his life back in order. One of the things that has me really excited for this show is seeing Damian Lewis smile and get to have fun… I was really blown away by his performance in Band of Brothers…there’s some Steve McQueen quality about Damian that I really like. He’s cool in a timeless way.
  • Thanks to Jen for posting news about upcoming Australian broadcasts of Damian Lewis’s work including: Much Ado About Nothing, Brides, and An Unfinished Life. • Access Hollywood interviews with the cast of Life last month for the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour reveal that:

» Damian Lewis doesn’t care for comparisons between his portrayal of Officer Charlie Crews and Hugh Laurie’s characterization of Dr. House,

» Adam Arkin will direct some of the episodes of Life, and

» Sarah Shahi’s real name is Aahoo Jahansouzshahi!

  • In this IndieLondon interview actor Steven Mackintosh talks about his role in The Escapist playing “Tony” the younger brother of “Rizza” (Damian Lewis) saying:

The Escapist is “…really a great, great script by first time writer-director Rupert Wyatt who, I think, is going to do really well. It’s a really classy script. It was a bit like a puzzle to read, and quite cryptic, but it comes together at the end. It’s basically a smart angle on a prison escape movie. I play a guy called Tony who’s a serious junkie within the prison. I’m also the brother of Damien Lewis’s character and together they’re running the prison – everything has to be operated through them. He’s a fairly nasty guy…”

It sounds like Damian will be playing a villain once again, oh dear! (But he does it so well that you can’t help loving him at the same time that you’re hating him!)
