In today’s issue of the Sunday Mail Mickey Mcmonagle calls The Escapist a “superb film which is gripping throughout and deserves to be a huge hit.”
Friday’s issue of Variety says of The Escapist:

“Also garnering strong reviews is debut director Rupert Wyatt’s prison breakout drama “The Escapist,” which Vertigo Films smuggle out on 68 locations. Referring to it as “the British debut of the year,” Daily Telegraph reviewer Tim Robey described it as an “ingeniously crafted drama.” Appealing cast includes Brit thesps Brian Cox, Joseph Fiennes and Damian Lewis.”
According to rumor Damian Lewis is back in London – at least for a little while – having flown in from Los Angeles this weekend where he has been busy filming episodes for season 2 of Life. Thanks to Dotty for the information!
Good news for online BBC viewers! A recent article in the Independent about Peter Kosminsky (director of the BAFTA-winning drama Warriors starring Damian Lewis) says “the BBC has announced that it is to create an online archive for its back catalogue, initially offering information and clips but eventually expanding to allow on-demand playback of entire programmes.” (Maybe we will get the chance to see rare performances by Damian Lewis for the BBC.)

According to an article in indieWIRE, THINKFilm – the US distributor of The Escapist – is experiencing a “cash crunch” that might affect release dates of films with planned late ’08 releases. The THINKFilm website currently shows a Fall 2008 release for The Escapist.
