  • The wonderful caricature above of Reese and Crews (everybody’s favorite crime-busting duo) was created by Michael Alan Harvey and posted at pfunn along with a very interesting review of the show that includes these comments:

“But the key to the series’ creative success, we are convinced, belongs to its stars. Damian Lewis (”Band of Brothers”) stars as Charlie Crews, bringing many twists to what might otherwise have been just a traditional tough-cop role. While Lewis is a handsome guy, he’s not one of the rugged-though-bland, cookie-cutter Hunks of the Moment that might otherwise have been placed in a starring role on a cop show (as in, oh, say, the new “Knight Rider”). He’s tall and lanky, with radioactive red hair and eyes that can pierce or sparkle, depending on the scene. What makes Charlie Crews most intriguing is that he might just be insane. Lewis understands that, and knows precisely when to evoke that possibility.

Sarah Shahi (”The L Word”) is Dani Reese, and in another actress’ hands the role might have devolved into another edition of The Thankless Female Partner (Who Just So Happens To Be Incredibly Hot). But Shahi often makes Reese the co-star of “Life,” and not just a supporting role. She evinces a steady mixture of confidence, fear, uncertainty, pain, determination and, at time, even admiration for her partner.”

  • Alex Strachan of CanWest News says of Life starring Damian Lewis:

“…there’s nothing rote or by-the-numbers about this quirky drama. Life … just might be the best TV drama you’re not watching. Give Life a chance, if you haven’t done so already. 8 p.m. Global, 10 p.m., NBC”

    • Wouldn’t this view greatly improve the scenery on your morning commute?! ;)

Peqe shared this photo of a gigantic billboard in Mexico City advertising Damian Lewis in Life on Wednesday nights on the AXN network.

    • Britain’s ITV3 Network has been deliberately vague about the date for the UK premiere of Life. Since last March they have been using terms like “coming soon” and “this autumn.”

Digital Spy’s “Premiere List Page” now shows an unconfirmed date and time in November for the program’s British debut:

        Life
        Season 1
        Date: Nov TBC
        Time: TBC
        Network: ITV3

Apparently “soon” and “autumn” have different meanings in the UK! :(

Hang tough, UK fans! Life is “coming soon!” :)

    • Damian Lewis fans in Australia are starting to receive the region 4 DVD for The Baker which has recently been released there.

    • Attention Damian Lewis fans in the UK!

    itv3-life.jpg

Spoilers! We still don’t have a broadcast date but the ITV3 press release is now available for UK premiere of Life season 1. The press pack offers a great interview with Damian Lewis that includes these comments:

“The ongoing narrative of the show is Charlie’s mission to find out who set him up, why they set him up and how deep the corruption goes. That coupled with the crime that he is investigating each week with his new partner, Dani Reese, is a nice dual thrust to the storytelling. The main reason I took the job and also why I love playing the character is I think it slightly subverts the genre of your average cop show. We’re used to seeing gritty, realistic procedural cop shows whether it’s Boomtown or The Wire – this is a much lighter show and it’s all based on the fact that this man comes out of prison radically altered. He has a rather cracked personality and soul after his ordeal. But rather than admitting darkness, there’s a great joy and light that comes from it: he resolves to seize life by the throat and live it to its full potential. He’s rather childlike and naïve, very much an optimist, and sees the best of everything in the world. It gives a real lightness of touch, and a comedic quality to the show which plays in direct contrast to the darkness of his experience.”

Life will debut on ITV3 this autumn. Thanks to Ann for the links!
