Mary Queen of Scots New York Premiere and Afterparty – Dec 4, 2018

Was He or Wasn’t He?

by Gingersnap | Page Six | December 4, 2018

Well, there are no pictures available but we now have two outlets reporting Damian attended the Mary Queen of Scots premiere and afterparty on Tuesday, December 4. Here are the details:

Focus Features and the Cinema Society hosted the New York premiere of Mary Queen of Scots at the Paris Theater.

The film, based on the book Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart by John Guy, opens on the scene of Mary’s beheading at Fotheringhay Castle on February 8, 1587. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. When Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth (Margot Robbie), each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

Following the screening, guests including Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy, Damian Lewis, Valentino, Sara Sampaio, Gus Kenworthy, Mamie Gummer, and Candace Bushnell joined the cast for an afterparty at Tavern on the Green.

Hair For Days

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | November 29, 2018

Let’s all take a walk down memory lane together. Each Thursday we will be sharing a Damian throwback, whether from a photoshoot or an event. We’d like to kick things off with a throwback to 1995, where we see a long-haired 23 or 24-year-old Damian posing for the camera either just prior to or soon after his performance in Poirot’s Hickory, Dickory, Dock since Damian’s hair was quite long, but not as long, in that television episode.

Visit the throwback gallery here. Enjoy!

Damian Lewis Does the Time Warp with Leo & Co. in New Tarantino Film – Nov 27, 2018

Hollywood Don’t Make Films Like They Used To!

by Ross King | Sunday Post | November 27, 2018

Dressing rooms have been replaced by trailers, expensive locations are now green screen – and the gin and tonics have been replaced by avocado and matcha salads.

But the latest movie by Quentin Tarantino is taking a leaf out of old Hollywood’s book.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a violent crime thriller based on the Manson Family Murders in the ’60s. It features Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and British star Damian Lewis, who plays legendary actor Steve McQueen.

I bumped into Damian at the BAFTA Britannia Awards and he told me he loved working with the Pulp Fiction director.

Cure EB: The Big Give Christmas Challenge

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | November 27, 2018

Today is Giving Tuesday! It is a a global day of giving we celebrate on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and kick off the charitable season! So it’s time to be thankful for all the good stuff in our lives and focus on our holiday giving.

Well, most of you know Damian Lewis is a proud patron of Cure EB.

Sohana Collins is a 15 year old teenager who was born with Recessive Dystropic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) which means she lacks the protein that holds her skin together. Kids with RDEB have extremely fragile skin that they are sometimes called “butterfly children.” Lots of activities we take for granted as easy routines in our daily lives are a struggle for them. Can you imagine a day where your dressing up takes up to two hours and eating and drinking cause blisters in your mouth and throat? These kids have to deal with this kind of pain every single day. Besides, they are under extra risk to develop skin cancer later in life and their life expectancy is not very long. Sohana’s parents Sharmila and James Collins founded Cure EB to raise awareness as well as funds for research to ultimately have a cure for this terrible skin condition.

Here is what Sohana says about EB.

Damian Visits Connecticut Pizzeria – Nov 19, 2018

A Slice of Heaven

by Rich Scinto | Patch, New Haven | November 19, 2018

On Sunday, November 18, Damian dined with his aunt and uncle at Pepe’s Pizzeria in New Haven, Connecticut. According to Patch.com, they enjoyed a margherita pie, quattro formaggi and a sausage and peppers pizza. Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana was founded in 1925 by Frank Pepe who was born in the town of Maiori on the Amalfi coast, southwest of Naples. He and his wife started making a simple and humble product from their homeland, “apizza”  — they started off baking two types of pizza, one with tomatoes with grated cheese, garlic, oregano and olive oil and the other with anchovy. The Original Tomato Pie is still offered today.

Ford Nation of Toronto

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | November 19, 2018

Rob Ford was no ordinary mayor. He was regularly involved in controversy from 2010 to 2014 as he ran the city of Toronto. Ford was, in particular, repeatedly videotaped and photographed while intoxicated in public, culminating in his being recorded smoking crack cocaine as reported by the Kevin Donovan and Robyn Doolittle of the Toronto Star. The Star won the Michener Award, one of the highest distinctions in Canadian journalism, for the investigative journalism.

“The Toronto Star exposed Ford’s public drunkenness, boorish behavior, abuses of his office, and existence of a video of him smoking crack cocaine accompanied by members of drug gang. The Star did not waver as the mayor countered every story with vehement denials and attacks.”

And the police investigation the scandal triggered resulted in Ford losing most of his mayoral powers in a quite undignified way. Continue reading Damian Lewis in Run This Town: A First Look – Nov 19, 2018

“Quentin’s film is going to blow people away.” – Damian Lewis on Britannia Awards Red Carpet

Well, some dreams come true and we have been living the dream since we got word late April that Damian Lewis would play the iconic Hollywood actor Steve McQueen in Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood!

As our long-time readers know, we have been rooting for Damian to play Steve McQueen for more than three years now. JaniaJania wrote this article about why Damian Lewis should play Steve McQueen when we got word back in 2015 that a Steve McQueen biopic was in works. And she also tweeted a question to be asked to Damian at NY Times Talks in 2016 about whether he would consider playing McQueen.

Our Kind of Traitor: A Behind the Scenes Filming Location

by Betty Wood | The Spaces | November 9, 2018

The home of MI6 agent Hector Meredith, played by Damian in the 2016 adaptation of John Le Carre’s Our Kind of Traitor, has been listed as ‘Property of the Week’ for a cool £1.495m.

The three-bedroom Langton Way property was built to a design by architects Peter Foggo and David Thomas in the early 1960s and is nestled, almost hidden, behind an inconspicuous brick wall in London’s Blackheath. The midcentury home has cocooning timber-lined interiors with rooms that are packed with warm wooden surfaces, including maple floors and pine ceilings. Floating cedar partitions informally divide its open-play layout while floor-to-ceiling glass bookends the main living spaces, creating sight-lines to its leafy garden. There is a wood-burning stove and white-washed brick walls, and a huge skylight channels light into the living room. Take a tour and view the slideshow here.

Damian Recites Sir Herbert Read’s Poem ‘My Company’ – Nov 8, 2018

The Josephine Hart Poetry Programme

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | November 8, 2018

In 2008, Josephine Hart (who died in 2011), explored the work of great poets with the unforgettable verse from the trenches of the First World War. She was joined live at the British Library by the actors Robert Hardy, Daniel Stevens, Damian Lewis and Elizabeth McGovern who give voice to the suffering, sarcasm, wit, and loss expressed by the poets of the Great War.

We are pleased to hear programmes from the BBC radio archive that traces the impact the First World War had upon poets, both soldiers, and those left behind. Listen to actors read some of the most profoundly moving artistic responses to the terrible impact of war ever written.

Click here to listen. The Josephine Hart segment appears to begin at 16:00, Damian is introduced around 17:55, and Damian begins reading the poem My Company by Sir Herbert Read around 26:00.

Happy National Love Your Red Hair Day, Damian! – Nov 5, 2018

The Redhead Club

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | November 5, 2018

Happy National Love Your Red Hair Day! Who comes to mind when you think of red hair? Lucille Ball? Prince Harry? Jessica Chastain? Not around here! We can think of no one else but Damian Lewis when it comes to red hair. Damian is one of the most recognizable redheads in the entertainment business, and he’s proud of it! Even James Corden, host of The Late Late Show, agrees that Damian is one of the world’s most famous redheads at 2:23 in:

We fans celebrate Damian everyday, but it’s also special to celebrate one of his most identifiable traits, that flaming red hair, with the rest of the world today! BAFTA LA didn’t miss out on the fun today either, tweeting this to Damian:

And the celebratory tweets didn’t stop there!

As The Independent explains, from fiery copper to strawberry blonde and deep burgundy, whatever your shade, today is a day for redheads to celebrate their tresses. And by red hair, we mean TRUE red hair, right Damian? No fake redheads allowed!

National Love Your Red Hair Day is celebrated every year on November 5 in the U.S. and May 19 in the UK. The day is also celebrated in the Netherlands on the first weekend of September in the city of Breda. Called Roodharigendag, the two-day festival, which inaugurated in 2005, is attended by thousands of people with natural red hair. No matter where you are in the world, there is a day dedicated to celebrating the beauty of ginger locks.

Damian Would Love To Be Considered for James Bond Role in 2020 – Nov 1, 2018

Guitars and Bond

by Ryan Parry and James Desborough | Daily Mail | November 1, 2018

Damian Lewis jokes to DailyMailTV that his guitar skills could help him nab the coveted role of 007 over top contenders Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Richard Madden. He believes he would make a great James Bond, telling DailyMailTV, “The name’s Bond… Busking Bond.”

His musical talent was revealed by close friend and Spooks star Matthew Macfadyen on the red carpet in Los Angeles at the Britannia Awards. The actor said of Lewis:

“There is no reason he should not be Bond. He is suave and sexy, he has a whiff of danger about him. He can ride motorbikes. He can play the guitar and he can dance. He is a red head and that is different and something unique, so I do not see any reason why not?”

Emmy and Golden Globe winner Lewis has made it clear he wants to be the man to replace Daniel Craig when he hangs up his Walther PPK in 2020. The 47-year-old told DailyMailTV he’d love to be considered for the role, and will ‘work hard’ to convince executive producers what their next 007 could look like.

We here at damian-lewis.com are partial to, “The name’s Bond…Ginge Bond.” But all that matters is for Damian to land the part! For more James Bond readings about Damian, visit our Fan Fun page.
