  • Visit the Warehouse for more pictures of Damian Lewis and his adorable son Gulliver participating in the “Prostate Cancer Charity London Tour” on September 19, 2009. 😀

  • Deborah Ground Buckner’s review for the “Kansas International Film Festival” screening of The Baker includes these comments:

Each village character manages to stand out from the ensemble, becoming clearly definable and engaging. Audiences will be pulling for Milo (Damian Lewis) and his belief that “Everyone deserves a second chance.” Beautiful scenes of the countryside (juxtaposed against the impact of Eggs and his explosives) and charming storefronts create an enchanting world. Michael Gambon is great fun as the seen-it-all done-it-all Leo, Kate Ashfield provides a lovely, spirited love interest, and the mysterious relationship between Milo and Bjorn is fun to watch as it unfolds.

The Baker received the Best Feature Film award at the RiverRun International Film Festival (2008), the Audience Favorite Award at the Connecticut Film Festival (2009), and the Gold Remi Award for Editing and the Special Jury Remi Award for a Theatrical Feature Film, at Worldfest Houston (2009).

  • Damian Lewis to play George Mallory? Yes, if author Jeffrey Archer gets his way! ➡

Columbia has purchased the film rights to Paths of Glory, Archer’s bestselling book about famous British mountaineer George Mallory who disappeared on Mt. Everest in 1924.

Thanks to Funn Lim for this news posted on the London Evening Standard.co.uk that Lord Archer thinks Damian Lewis is the best choice to play Mallory in the movie:

GOOD news for Lord Archer. He has sold the rights to the film adaptation of his book on George Mallory, Paths of Glory, to Columbia. Interestingly, the millionaire novelist is keener to see Damian Lewis cast in the role, rather than the favourite, Christian Bale, which might be because Lewis has played Archer himself in the satire Jeffrey Archer: The Truth. “We’re about to sign the contract this week,” Archer said. “Columbia have bought it which is good because a lot of people say they’re going to make a film and you know it’s all talk, Columbia are a serious outfit. Everybody says Christian Bale should play it. I think Damian Lewis is a very fine actor and obviously I’d be delighted if Christian Bale played it but I’m a huge fan of Damian Lewis, I think he’s a very fine actor.” Did Archer enjoy Lewis’s take on him? “Unfortunately, I never saw it,” he replies.

The photo above shows Damian Lewis in “fancy dress” as a knight in the BBC production of Shakespeare Retold – Much Ado About Nothing. This seems a fitting image because Damian is currently in Northern Ireland filming the role of a “dastardly knight” in Your Highness, the medieval comedy directed by David Gordon Green.

Here’s some news about Your Highness:

  • Spoilers! Leanne Cari’s preview of Your Highness for Cinema Blend includes this synopsis of the film’s storyline:

Throughout history, tales of chivalry have burnished the legends of brave, handsome knights who rescue fair damsels, slay dragons and conquer evil. But behind many a hero is a good-for-nothing younger brother trying just to stay out of the way of those dragons, evil and trouble in general. Danny McBride and James Franco team up for an epic comedy adventure set in a fantastical world- Your Highness. As two princes on a daring mission to save their land, they must rescue the heir apparent’s fiancée before their kingdom is destroyed.

Thadeous (McBride) has spent his life watching his perfect older brother Fabious (Franco) embark upon valiant journeys and win the hearts of his people. Tired of being passed over for adventure, adoration and the throne, he’s settled for a life of wizard’s weed, hard booze and easy maidens. But when Fabious’ bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), gets kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux), the king gives his deadbeat son an ultimatum: Man up and help rescue her or get cut off.

Half-assedly embarking upon his first quest, Thadeous joins Fabious to trek across the perilous outlands and free the princess. Joined by Isabel (Natalie Portman)–an elusive warrior with a dangerous agenda of her own–the brothers must vanquish horrific creatures and traitorous knights before they can reach Belladonna. If Thadeous can find his inner hero, he can help his brother prevent the destruction of his land. Stay a slacker, and not only does he die a coward, he gets front row seats to the dawn of an all-new Dark Ages.

  • On August 18, 2009, talented musician Dick Glasgow joined 5 other artists to record 4 tracks of traditional Irish music for Your Highness. Click here for a video of Dick Glasgow on the fiddle and John Hughes on uilleann pipes playing “Hand Me Down the Tackle.”

Claire Hall and her daughter Caitlin have just returned from Ireland where they acted as villagers for the filming of Your Highness. Ms. Hall and her son Bradley will also appear as extras in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with Helen McCrory as Narcissa Malfoy.

  • This article from the Belfast Telegraph tells the story of a lost (and found!) copy of the script for Your Highness that was mislaid by a forgetful member of the film’s crew.
  • British actor John Fricker has joined the cast of Your Highness.
  • Irish actor Emmett J. Scanlon has posted his screen test for Your Highness on YouTube.

  • Don’t miss Damian Lewis’s brilliant performance in Lodge Kerrigan’s Keane on the Sundance Channel in the US:

    » Wednesday, September 9 at 1:05am

    » Monday, September 21 at 2am

  • Keane will soon broadcast in the UK on Sky Arts:

    » Sky Arts 1 September 8th, 10:10pm

    » Sky Arts 1 HD September 8th, 10:10pm

  • Lee Paris’s review of Keane includes these comments:

  • Damian Lewis is frighteningly convincing and within the first few moments of watching his pained yet incredibly handsome face I was mesmerized. I felt that I was a fly on the wall of his brain – his poor, tortured, sick brain. It didn’t take long to realize that he was suffering from schizophrenia… It is obvious that director Lodge Kerrigan has intimate knowledge regarding schizophrenia (check out his earlier film ‘Clean,Shaven’) and it was refreshing to see the subject portrayed an a non-stereotyped manner. How rare to see it played out from the body of a very together looking, well dressed, well spoken, handsome human. The lack of soundtrack was perfect to add to the brutal reality of the inner workings of the character…

  • Keane is available on DVD in:

    » Region 1 – US and Canada

» Region 2 – UK, Europe, South Africa, Mideast, Egypt, and Japan

» Region 4 – Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean

  • Studio-NI reports that extras are still being called for Your Highness with Damian Lewis, currently filming in Northern Ireland:

The good news is that a large number of the cast and crew are Studio NI members.
Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten the call yet – new people are being recruited all the time, and there are still a few weeks to go…The bad news: everyone employed must sign a contract with a small-print confidentiality clause. Thus, the buzz that can raise morale in the local film industry (and make or break a film) is being killed.
