Damian Lewis Gives Speech at Acland Burghley School in Camden for its 50th Anniversary Celebrations – Jan 27, 2016

Damian Lewis Gives Speech at Acland Burghley School in Camden for its 50th Anniversary Celebrations

The Homeland actor joked: ‘For those of you who were hoping to meet Eddy Grant or Ms Dynamite or Lee Thompson from Madness, I can only give my apologies. I was the best available.’

The Homeland actor was invited to switch on a laser display at Acland Burghley School in Camden, north London, to help the school mark 50 years since its opening.

‘It seems to me that this evening is about a celebration of our community here in Tufnell Park and he role the school has played here in Tufnell Park in the last 50 years.’

Lewis, whose wife Helen McCrory stood in the audience as he addressed a crowd of around 450 before starting a countdown to a laser show, said he had lived in the area for a decade.

Referring to his Eton education, Lewis said: ‘I was very lucky at my schools to having a thriving creative community. I believe sincerely that the success of schools is greater when there is a thriving creative community within the school.’

Speaking from notes he concluded: ‘I share with you the hope that Acland Burghley can continue to grow and be a beacon of curiosity, independence, creativity and diversity right here in the heart of Tufnell Park.’

Cleo at New Yorker Festival 2015

After the interview with Lauren Collins on Saturday, the second event for Damian Lewis at this weekend’s New Yorker Festival was a play reading of Lawrence Wright’s Cleo, with Damian Lewis playing the part of Richard Burton to Lily Rabe’s Elizabeth Taylor.

We’re all pretty familiar with “le scandale” that brewed behind the set of the filming of the most expensive production of its time, right? Lawrence Wright’s script gives us a story built around the events of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor’s combustible love affair during the filming of Hollywood blockbuster Cleopatra.

The Weekend: Or How Damian Lewis Rocked New Yorker Festival

by Damianista

Two of my MOST favorite things, Damian Lewis and the New Yorker came together at the New Yorker Festival this past weekend. I wrote earlier here about the proud fan moment I was having thanks to Damian Lewis making not one but two appearances at my most favorite festival! Just to re-iterate briefly, I’ve been reading The New Yorker quite religiously for more than a decade now. I don’t remember how many subscriptions I gave to friends as gifts over the years and it is still one of the few subscriptions that I receive in the mail every week. And, the New Yorker Festival feels like the pages of the magazine literally coming to life for a weekend throughout the city with talks, conversations, readings, performances, panels with individuals that are at the top of their game in their respective fields — including arts, sciences, politics, sports, theater, music, literature, film, TV, food and more… As someone that attended quite a few events at the festival over the years, I can confidently say that, independent of the context, all events share one characteristic: intelligence. The festival participants are without exception endowed with some real brainpower. They are, in The New Yorker‘s own words, “some of the most talented and influential thinkers about topics ranging from politics to pop music, science to cinema, and so much more.”

Damian Lewis Writes Foreword for ‘The Outstanding Actor’ Book – Feb 16, 2015

The Outstanding Actor: Seven Keys to Success by Ken Rea, Senior Acting Teacher at Guildhall School of Music and Drama

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | February 16, 2015

Who better to write the foreword for his Alma Mater than our favorite actor Damian Lewis!

This is a wonderful book with a unique take on how actors can get better and improve their chances of success. If we can all perform with half the warmth and generosity with which Ken has been teaching for the last 30 years, then we will have fulfilled our responsibility as story tellers and audiences all over the world are in for a real treat.

Damian Lewis – actor

Drawing on Ken Rea’s 30 years’ teaching experience and research, as well as interviews with top actors and directors, The Outstanding Actor identifies seven key qualities that the most successful actors manifest, along with practical exercises that help nurture those qualities.

Damian Lewis Says Henry VIII “As Big A Brand As Coca-Cola,” While Plugging PBS’s ‘Wolf Hall’

Television Critics Association Press Tour, Winter Tour, Panel Discussion

“Henry [VIII] as a brand, is right up there with Coca Cola,” Damian Lewis said, of the oft-portrayed Tudor king he plays in PBS’s six-part miniseries Wolf Hall.  “My vanity will always relish a challenge,” Lewis said, of trying to turn in a fresh performance of the historical figure. “In fact, that probably encourages me.”

Not so fresh, maybe, were his answers to question about his character, on stage this morning at Winter TV Press Tour 2015; his “syphilitic, philandering Elvis” line, in re how Henry VIII is most often perceived/portrayed, is getting a little worn out as Lewis make the press rounds to promote the project.
