Damian Returns to Host ‘Have I Got News For You’ – Sept 22, 2020

Seventh Time at the Helm

by Emma Kelly | Metro | September 22, 2020

Have I Got News For You is returning to its studio for its 60th series.

Series 59 of the long-running panel show was filmed virtually, from the panellists’ respective homes during lockdown.

However, the upcoming series, which will mark the show’s 30th anniversary, will be back in the studio, and hopefully with the reintroduction of a studio audience.

The audience at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith will be socially distanced and at a reduced capacity, while there are plans to have a second socially distanced audience watching the record from a separate screening room, with this audience’s live reactions being used to recreate the impact of a full audience.

While the audience is reduced, though, there has been no scrimping on the star power.

The first episode of the 60th series will be hosted by Homeland star Damian Lewis, who is returning for his seventh time at the helm.

Comedian Josh Widdicombe and journalist Katy Balls will be joining regular team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop as guest panellists, as the show marks three decades since Have I Got News For You’s launch on the BBC in 1990.

According to BBC 1 website here, episode one of the 60th series will air Friday, October 2, 2020 at 21:00 p.m.

Coping With CoVid-19 Crisis: Damian and Helen on Feeding Health Workers After Filming Halted – April 6, 2020

Helping Others: First Parking, Then Pizzas, Now FeedNHS.com

by Jake Kanter | Deadline | April 6, 2020

As coronavirus crashed through the TV business, husband and wife Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory were among those cast adrift. Lewis was making Season 5 of Billions, while McCrory was on the brink of going into production on Season 6 of Peaky Blinders. Now, both are holed up in their British countryside home in Suffolk. But far from quietly riding out the COVID-19 tsunami, the pair have leashed an anchor of sorts and are using their platform for a much-needed mission to feed frontline healthcare workers in the UK.

McCrory said she spent one-day doing hair and makeup and tests for Peaky Blinders, during which it dawned on much of the production team that “something very big is coming.” She explains: “The next morning I woke and told my producer I’m not comfortable doing this anymore… Cillian Murphy did the same. Together with the producers, we approached the BBC and said we’re going to pull this now before we have to do this down the line.” Production was halted on March 16, a mere three weeks ago. “That all seems like a very different world at the moment. Terribly unimportant,” McCrory reflects.

The couple turned to their friends in the National Health Service and asked where they could help. Their initial idea was to cover parking fines for the nurses and doctors who were getting caught out on long shifts, but the government soon moved to waive parking fees for health care workers. The next idea came from Bob Klaber, who works at the Imperial College Healthcare Trust in London. “He said the real problem is food,” recalls McCrory. With staff canteens in hospitals either not existing or shutting down, and nearby eateries closing amid the country-wide lockdown, some NHS employees were running on empty. Lewis and McCrory seized on Klaber’s idea and started getting pizzas delivered to intensive care units. The efforts were greeted by “lovely photos of smiling faces,” but it quickly became apparent that they needed something more sustainable — and nourishing — for those fighting coronavirus.

Damian Makes 2020’s London Power 100 List – March 10, 2020

Damian Ranks #38 on London Power 100 List

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | March 10, 2020

Damian Lewis moves up in the ranks, from #46 last year to #38 this year. Congrats!

Meet the most influential people in London. The new London Power 100 was published today, which is an annual list of the 100 most influential people in London and includes a wide variety of high achievers and power players in the city and from the city of London.

From June each year, two teams of researchers begin curating and researching names for the list which are put forward to a panel of judges for consideration. This part of the process referred to as the “nominating process” is open to the public who can submit their suggestions to the judges via email.

From early November the judging panel begin scrutinizing the list and place individuals put forward in order, taking into consideration their achievements both past and present. Following which, the President of London Power 100 is advised of the final list by the middle of January. After reviewing, the list is published in March.

President Nicholas Taylor stated, “I have had the pleasure of working with and alongside many local businesses, entrepreneurs, charities and media personalities across film, music, and sport who have in some way influenced London’s landscape. It is not surprising that 2020’s list is made up of individuals who have in some way left their mark on the City, both past and present, from a broad spectrum of skill sets. Congratulations to this year’s inductees.”

Major stars such as Idris Elba, Benedict Cumberbatch, Damian Lewis, Naomie Harris, Tom Hiddleston, Cara Delevingne, Letitia Wright, David Beckham, Gavin Rossdale, Rita Ora and Mo Farah joined veteran Londoners Sir Michael Caine, Dame Helen Mirren, and Dame Joan Collins on the list, which also features royalty like Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Charles, Prince of Wales, along with politicians, restaurateurs and business leaders.

Newcomers include British billionaire S. P. Hinduja, singer Harry Styles and Tottenham MP David Lammy whilst Dragons’ Den tycoon Tej Lalvani and West Ham United Football Club’s CEO Baroness Karren Brady all made a debut on the list.

Apple Launches In-House Studio, Sets Band of Brothers Follow-Up Series – Oct 11, 2019

Masters of the Air

by Will Thorne | Variety | October 11, 2019

Apple is set to produce its first in-house series.

The show in question is Masters of the Air, a follow-up to the Band of Brothers and The Pacific series executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The legendary duo are on board once again, which comes as no surprise given that Spielberg was a prominent figure at the Apple TV Plus launch event in March. Masters of the Air will also be a limited drama and represents the first series greenlit with Apple serving as the studio. The tech giant has placed worldwide video heads Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht in charge of overseeing its new studio.

Based on the book by Donald L. Miller, Masters of the Air is said to follow the true, deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. The series is being written by Band of Brothers alumnus John Orloff, who is also a co-executive producer. The critically acclaimed Band of Brothers miniseries aired on HBO back in 2001, and featured Homeland and Billions star Damian Lewis in one of the lead roles. The show won a handful of Emmys and a Golden Globe, while its successor The Pacific was also an awards season success.

Spielberg is exec producing via his Amblin Television banner, alongside Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Graham Yost, also an alumnus from Band of Brothers, will co-executive produce alongside Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey and Steven Shareshian of Playtone.

Masters of the Air will stream exclusively on Apple TV Plus and represents the second project for Apple to hail from Spielberg’s Amblin Television…

Broadcasters Sign Up for A+E’s Damian Lewis: Spy Wars – Oct 11, 2019

Going Global

by Joseph O’Halloran | Rapid TV News | October 11, 2019  -and-
by Peter White | Deadline | October 11, 2019

As we head into the leading global content trade show and world’s entertainment market MIPCOM 2019 next week, A+E Networks and A+E Networks UK have signed a slew of top international broadcasters for its latest factual co-production, Damian Lewis: Spy Wars.

Earlier this year we reported here that Spy Wars was heading to the Smithsonian Channel for US markets, a joint venture between CBS Corporation’s Showtime and the Smithsonian Institute. And now it seems other broadcasters will be joining Smithsonian Channel’s lead. The docu-drama currently airing on History UK and Blaze in the UK will now be available in the following markets: Blue Ant (Canada); POP TV (Slovenia); Bilibil.com (China); TVNZ (New Zealand); Historia and Atresmedia (Spain). A+E Networks says that multiple other deals are in negotiation. No word yet when television viewing audiences in other countries will see Damian hit their small screens, but rumor has it early 2020 for US customers.

In the series, award-winning actor Damian Lewis unpacks some of the most thrilling covert missions in modern-day history with the help of new declassified information, high-profile experts, and intelligence officers who were there. The program ranges from the most notorious spy exchange of recent times to the fake film production that freed Americans during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis to in-depth profiles of the world’s most skilled and lethal double agents and has been described as James Bond meets every John le Carré thriller you’ve ever read.

Damian Lewis: Spy Wars is executive produced by Alaska TV’s Chris Fouracre, Ian Lamarra, and Paul Sommers in association with Lewis’ own recently launched Rookery Productions with brother Gareth Lewis.

Hints and Clues About New Project

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 10, 2019

Source: Instagram @hectorbateman

Today this sweet, young, professional actor posted pictures of him and Damian on Instagram giving us fandom the first clue about a possible up-and-coming voice work project Damian appears to be a part of. In addition to Damian and Hector Bateman, other actors possibly involved in the project are Allan Corduner, Sophia Pettit and Susannah Wise.  Bateman wrote,

“Sometimes I have to pinch myself. A part comes along that I am honoured to play, particularly when it has a truth in history and based on events that should never ever be forgotten. I feel I have a duty to pay respect to those involved, to what happened and let others hear the story too. This was one of those. Truly blessed to be able to do it 💗 I also got to work with the most incredible team – MASSIVE talent with so much experience to learn from and tales to hear, I love listening to their advice. Their skill is so inspiring, seeing people like that in action is just wow! The crew was so motivating, sharing the story, making me want to do the best possible version of the character it’s a privilege to be. Thankful and blessed to be part of this. Thanks to the wonderful #DamianLewis @AllanCorduner @SophiaPettit #SusannahWise and all the others not in the pictures!”

No details about the project were provided other than it is rooted in historical truth about events that should never be forgotten, and we can’t wait to find out what this voice work will lead to! Perhaps a radio play? Looking forward to it as always!

Remembering Damian Lewis on the Gatwick Express – May 14, 2019

Gatwick Express Celebrating 35th Birthday

by Joshua Powling | Crawley Observer | May 14, 2019

The team at Gatwick Express is marking 35 years of operation with a number of birthday celebrations with passengers, staff and airport partners today, Tuesday, May 14.

The Gatwick Express came into full service on May 14, 1984, transporting passengers from London Victoria to Gatwick Airport. The service was initially formed of Class 73 trains with specially modified coaches to carry passenger luggage.

Since its launch, Gatwick Express has evolved: in 2007 the service was extended to and from Brighton, became part of the UK’s biggest rail franchise Govia Thameslink Railway in 2015, and saw a £145m fleet renewal programme in 2016.

At London Victoria this morning the team surprised passengers with limited edition organic tote bags with a string quartet serenading arrivals.

Members of staff are marking the birthday by sharing some of their favourite memories of the Gatwick Express, including a number of celebrity spots.

Simone Forzani, customer service host, said: “So many famous people have passed through our gates: Richard Branson’s been here and I’ve seen David Cameron twice. But the one who made me swoon was Damian Lewis. He was carrying loads of bags and was struggling to get through the gateline. I offered to help but he couldn’t speak because he had his ticket in his mouth, poor man.

“So I took it from him, popped it through the gate and let him through. Everyone was staring at us. He was so grateful for my help and then Damian Lewis turned around and smiled – at me.”
