Damian to Play Rob Ford in the Movie ‘Run This Town’ – April 10, 2018

Damian Will Play a Flashy, Unpredictable Politician with No Filter

by Michael Oliveira | The Globe and Mail | April 10, 2018

As we initially reported back on March 26 and confirmed by both Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Damian will play controversial ex-Toronto Mayor Rob Ford in the drama, Run This Town. In an interview released today, Damian revealed he was fitted with a prosthetic in order to play the former mayor, who died in 2016 at the age of 46. Damian told Kit Magazine the process took an entire afternoon, which involved “getting his face and head completely covered in silicon strips, breathing through a small hole near the nose.”

However, writer-director Ricky Tollman clarified the film is not a biopic. Tollman says Ford is actually a fairly minor character in the story of a young wannabe journalist and other millennials who struggle to make a living in a post-recession economy. Ben Platt plays a bumbling newsroom intern who wants to break the story on the Ford scandal — but is several steps behind other reporters.

Tollman said he was thrilled to recruit Lewis to portray Ford, calling him “one of the most talented actors working today.”  “I thought that this is a guy that can play the moments of darkness and depth, but can also play the lighter moments. Rob was a guy that was elected because people wanted to grab a beer with the guy, you know?” said Tollman.

“He [Lewis] took to the idea that this wasn’t a one-dimensional version of this character.”

Catching Up With Damian Lewis for a Chat – March 15, 2018

Fandom Has No Borders

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | March 15, 2018

We turned our ‘Fan Stories Series’ into a book for Damian – 55 fan stories from 21 countries!

It all started with a random conversation on the New York subway. Damianista, who started the blog Fan Fun with Damian Lewis and is now the owner and admin of damian-lewis.com, asked fellow Fan Fun blogger and hedge-fund expert Lady Trader how she “discovered” Damian.  The story was hilarious and Damianista encouraged her to write a blog post about it for Fan Fun.

That got Damianista thinking, wouldn’t it be fun if we invited all the fans to write their own story about how they became a Damian Lewis fan?

We did not know what to expect since it is not easy, in general, to get people to voluntarily sit down and do homework.

But guess what? We received an amazing response to our call and published each and every one of the stories we collected over the course of a year.

They demonstrated how Damian’s art inspired us, moved us, and even sometimes helped us cope with what we call life.

Damianista hand-delivered the book compilation to Damian in person on Wednesday, March 14 at The Today Show studios, Rockefeller Center, New York. Damian informed her that he was indeed checking the damian-lewis.com website and reading the Fan Fun with Damian Lewis blog, and that they were great!

Preparation for Old Vic’s 200th Anniversary in May – Feb 12, 2018

Damian and Helen: Old Vic Theatre Ambassadors

by Matthew Hemley | The Stage | February 12, 2018

Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Cate Blanchett and Eileen Atkins are among more than 100 actors, writers and TV personalities announced as ambassadors of the Old Vic as it prepares to mark its 200th anniversary.

They join Imelda Staunton, Ian McKellen, Maxine Peake, Damian Lewis, Derek Jacobi, Janie Dee and Simon Russell Beale as Bicentenary Ambassadors, who will be involved in a variety of initiatives to mark the theatre’s anniversary. These include curating monologues, attending events around the anniversary in May and raising awareness of its education work.

Peake will curate a series of monologues called One Hand Tied Behind Us, to mark International Women’s Day, while Helen McCrory will hold a workshop for aspiring actors. Bertie Carvel will run this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the theatre.

The Old Vic, originally named the Royal Coburg, first opened its doors in 1818 and over the last two centuries has played host to opera, dance, cinema, music hall, classical dramas, variety, clowns, big spectacles and novelty acts. It was the original home of the English National Opera, the Sadler’s Wells dance company and the National Theatre. It has also been a tavern, a college, a coffee house, a lecture hall and a meeting place. The theatre is unique. It stands alone, an independent charity producing groundbreaking work, with no public subsidy, and a social mission running through all it does on and off stage. The adventurous spirit that has permeated every chapter of its history remains as strong today, 200 years on, as it was in 1818.
