Preparation for Old Vic’s 200th Anniversary in May – Feb 12, 2018

Damian and Helen: Old Vic Theatre Ambassadors

by Matthew Hemley | The Stage | February 12, 2018

Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Cate Blanchett and Eileen Atkins are among more than 100 actors, writers and TV personalities announced as ambassadors of the Old Vic as it prepares to mark its 200th anniversary.

They join Imelda Staunton, Ian McKellen, Maxine Peake, Damian Lewis, Derek Jacobi, Janie Dee and Simon Russell Beale as Bicentenary Ambassadors, who will be involved in a variety of initiatives to mark the theatre’s anniversary. These include curating monologues, attending events around the anniversary in May and raising awareness of its education work.

Peake will curate a series of monologues called One Hand Tied Behind Us, to mark International Women’s Day, while Helen McCrory will hold a workshop for aspiring actors. Bertie Carvel will run this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the theatre.

The Old Vic, originally named the Royal Coburg, first opened its doors in 1818 and over the last two centuries has played host to opera, dance, cinema, music hall, classical dramas, variety, clowns, big spectacles and novelty acts. It was the original home of the English National Opera, the Sadler’s Wells dance company and the National Theatre. It has also been a tavern, a college, a coffee house, a lecture hall and a meeting place. The theatre is unique. It stands alone, an independent charity producing groundbreaking work, with no public subsidy, and a social mission running through all it does on and off stage. The adventurous spirit that has permeated every chapter of its history remains as strong today, 200 years on, as it was in 1818.

Damian Lewis Attends GFI Charity Day for Sohana Research Fund/Cure EB – Sept 11, 2017

On the Trading Floor for a Good Cause

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | September 11, 2018

We all know Damian Lewis is a proud patron of Cure EB, formally Sohana Research Fund. Damian ROCKED the trading floor on Charity Day in 2014 picking up the phones to help raise money for Sohana Research Fund/Cure EB as well as Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

And today he was BACK on the trading floor, this time at GFI Group, now a division of BGC partners, representing Cure EB/Sohana Research Fund to help raise funds and find a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa, to make the world a better place for the bravest girl he has ever known and all the butterfly kids out there.

Well, he may call himself a muppet but Damian plays more like a professional baller in Game for Grenfell!

Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer, two former football stars, put together Game4Grenfell, a football match between two amazing teams of football stars and non-football stars at Queen Park Rangers’ (QPR) Loftus Road Stadium “to raise funds and inspire hope for those affected” by the Grenfell Tower fire that caused at least 80 deaths and more than 70 injuries back in June.

And while we are all on the same side at Game4Grenfell; on the side of the victims, their families, and the larger Lancaster West Estatecommunity, when asked by Game4Grenfell the following question, I have only one answer:

Damian Lewis’s Goal for Grenfell Tower Charity Football Match? Don’t Get Nutmegged! – Sept 1, 2017

Damian Lewis’s goal for Grenfell Tower charity football match? Don’t get nutmegged!

By David Churchill – Evening Standard – September 1, 2017

Damian has one aim when he takes to the pitch for tomorrow’s Grenfell Tower charity football match — to avoid the kind of humiliation he suffered at the feet of one of the world’s greatest players.

Zinedine Zidane nutmegged the former Homeland star in front of 70,000 people at Old Trafford after Lewis clattered into him with a poor tackle during a 2010 Soccer Aid match.

This time Lewis, who grew up near Grenfell Tower, will be playing alongside stars including Sir Mo Farah, Olly Murs, Tinie Tempah and Alan Shearer at Loftus Road, home of Queens Park Rangers. Funds raised will go through London Community Foundation to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund before being distributed to survivors, and towards community projects.

Designing His Own Philanthropy, Part 2

by Lynda – guest blogger for Fan Fun With Damian Lewis – May 18, 2017

Part II of Lynda’s detailed survey into Damian’s generous heart. In case you missed Part I, it is here.

Programs benefiting children are near and dear to Damian’s heart. Since 2000, he has donated his valuable time serving as an Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust. In 2008, in a brief street interview on London news, Damian spoke about the importance of The Prince’s Trust providing opportunities for at-risk young people who might not otherwise follow positive paths in life.

In June 2013, for the 30th anniversary event at the Centre, he and Helen, also an Ambassador, donated their time at the vocational center Enterprise Programme, which supports youth development, mentorships, self-confidence building, and entrepreneurship. There, they actively engaged with program participants, learning about the benefits of the program and offering encouragement.

Most recently, on February 9, 2017, Ambassadors Damian Lewis and Helen McCrory attended The Prince’s Trust “Invest in Futures” formal reception enjoying the company of Prince Charles himself.
