Living the Dream: Why Hollywood Has Taken On Ultimate Rags to Riches Tale – Jan 26, 2020

Damian is a Dream in Dream Horse

by Olivia Buxton | Sunday Express | January 26, 2020

It’s a long way from an old slag heap in a Welsh mining village to the red carpets of Hollywood. But, then again, how often has a horse bought on a whim for £300 beaten the multi-millionaires of the sport of kings?  And all that after undergoing a revolutionary stem cell treatment to overcome a life-threatening injury which was feared would stop him ever racing again.

Now the rags-to-riches story of Dream Alliance and how he brought hope to one of Britain’s most deprived spots is a film with Homeland star Damian Lewis, Gavin & Stacey‘s Joanna Page and hit Broadway actress Toni Collette. It was even screened at the swish Sundance Film Festival in Utah on Friday.

It all began in Cefn Fforest working men’s club when Jan Vokes overheard tax advisor Howard Davies (played by Lewis) saying how he once ran a racehorse syndicate. It had cost him £5,000 and he’d promised wife Angela (played by Page) that he would never do anything like it again. But Jan was interested.

She cleaned at Asda and at a school and worked as a barmaid – but didn’t see why she couldn’t breed a racehorse. She had an allotment on a slag heap, as a child had watched her father breed budgies and had bred pigeons and whippets herself.

Howard managed to convince his wife that they wouldn’t lose money and found an aging stallion for stud.

Joanna Page says it was a joy to star alongside Damian Lewis in Dream Horse,

“Damian Lewis plays my husband, Howard, and we have a syndicate in this Welsh village, where we live and we breed a racing horse. Damian’s character is one of the main ones in the syndicate but Angela is not very supportive.”

“But Damian was so lovely and funny to work with. He’s brilliant.”

Damian Attends Knicks Game

Time for Some Hoops Courtside

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 26, 2019

Damian was courtside this weekend as he attended the Boston Celtics vs. New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Saturday, October 26, 2019. Billions will begin filming season five in early November and it seems the Billions star brought his beard from the across the pond for his U.S. fans to enjoy, until he shaves it for his Bobby Axelrod role. Who knows, maybe Axe is going to purchase the Knicks and his attendance is a preliminary survey and purely strategic 😉  Other stars at the game include Tracy Morgan (not pictured), Chris Rock, and Chris’s daughter Zahra.

Chief Rivalry Cricket Match of the Summer – Aug 22, 2019

The Authors vs. The Actors XI, 2019

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | August 22, 2019

Source: Instagram @actorsxi

It was the biggest cricket match of the summer today, August 22, 2019, as The Authors took on their oldest rivals, The Actors at Eton College.

Over the past eight seasons The Authors have played cricket teams of priests, publishers, soldiers, lawyers, bankers, tea planters and prison guards but they could not score a ‘W’ against their chief rivalry The Actors.

Damian’s team scored a victory today as The Authors lost to The Actors by 39 runs, ending a five year losing streak. Cheers to Damian’s team, The Actors!

Sponsored by Rathbones, the match was umpired by John Betts and scored by Peter Harding. Stars of both screen and page participated in the match, including:

The Actors: Team Captain Damian Lewis, Nick Asbury, Ant Jardine, Nathan Lee, Lachlan Nieboer, Julian Ovenden, Geoff Streatfeild, William Troughton, Dan Tuite, Ben Willbond, and James Wrighton.

The Authors: Team Captain Charlie Campbell, Arthur Beard, Richard Beard, Ben Falk, Sebastian Faulks, Nicholas Hogg, Tom Holland, Jon Hotten, Vaseem Khan, Anthony McGowan, and Adam Rutherford.

A Day of Cricket and Bad Weather

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | August 14, 2019

Damian was dressed for a day of cricket as he chatted with other guests in attendance for day one of the 2019 Ashes Series, England v Australia test match, at Lord’s in London.  He enjoyed a glass of wine from the balcony of the clubhouse while waiting for the action to begin, but even a delayed start time was abandoned as the capital was hit by the torrential weather.

Day 11:  Men’s Semi-Finals

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | July 12, 2019

It wouldn’t be a summer without Damian and Helen enjoying some tennis. Our favorite couple were spotted in the Royal Box during day 11 of the Wimbledon 2019 Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England on Friday, July 12, 2019 to watch Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal reprise their 2008 Wimbledon final in Friday’s semifinals. Damian enjoyed the company of David Beckham and Eric Bana who were in attendance nearby, but something must have been very entertaining, as Damian and Jude Law had quite the laugh together – and we have the pictures to prove it!
