Billions Season 7, Episode 8 Recap: Going Nuclear

The Owl

by Sean T. Collins | New York Times | September 29, 2023

Season 7, Episode 8: ‘The Owl’

Mike Prince is trying to do the right thing. A man for whom his wife, Andy, cares deeply has had a mountain-climbing accident in the Himalayas. He is injured and alone, in the path of a storm, running out of food and stranded on the Chinese side of the mountains.

Mike has the resources to arrange a successful extraction, even under these physically and politically dangerous conditions. To rescue the man means risking an international incident and potentially ending his presidential campaign. Not to rescue him means the man will die, and Andy will lose someone who is more to her than a friend.

Billions Season 7, Episode 8 Recap: Pissing in the Wind

The Owl

by Sarene Leeds | Vulture | September 29, 2023

Mike Prince is an unstoppable force. Now that he’s been newly minted as the preferred presidential candidate by a powerful political operative, it will take a lot more than a fledgling Fifth Column and a determined U.S. Attorney to take this guy down.

“The Owl” is the last, what I would call, “casual” episode. Its minimal plotlines set the stage for the chaos that will ensue over the final four episodes. That’s not a spoiler: remember that we’re still owed three more Axe episodes. And Axe + Billions = chaos.

From The Trader’s Desk: Breakout the Tux, It’s Casino Night!

Billions Season 7 Episode 7 ‘DMV’

by Lady Trader | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | September 29, 2023

You see life through distorted eyes
You know you have to learn
The execution of your mind
You really have to turn
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath – Black Sabbath

After a brief hiatus, the Trader’s Desk is back, and we are diving into Billions S7E7 “DMV”!

I chose the above lyrics from Black Sabbath because oh my, did Philip see Prince in a new light this week. And I think he learned something about himself as well.

I am going to break this week’s post into three parts: the driving test incident, Prince being a pure tyrant and possibly turning another employee against him, and Casino Night, which was my favorite part of the episode.

Damian Lewis and Alison Mosshart Attend Comedy Show

The Old Man and The Pool

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | September 27, 2023

Damian and Alison recently attended Mike Birbiglia’s stand-up comedy show The Old Man and The Pool at Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End, London. View more images from the event in our Gallery. Readers may recognize Mike as Damian’s former Billions co-star who played Oscar Langstraat, a love interest of Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon).  After a sell-out Broadway run, Mike took his show to Edinburgh, Scotland in August of this year and then to London from September 12 – October 7, 2023. Tickets can be purchased here.

According to the Guardian, the 80-minute show covers mortality and array of his medical diagnoses from bladder cancer, a severe sleep-walking disorder that requires him to go to bed each night in a sleeping bag while wearing mittens to prevent him from unzipping himself, type-2 diabetes and more recently, pulmonary issues. Now that might all sound doom and gloom, but as the Guardian quipped, “audiences will rarely have laughed so much while being invited to contemplate their own extinction” and New York Times claims, “The best comedy of the year.”

Damian Lewis Interview: “Why I’m Playing a Gig at Brudenell Social Club in Leeds”

Learning His Craft in More Intimate Venues

by Adam Davidson | Yorkshire Post | September 24, 2023

Damian Lewis is best known for his critically-acclaimed roles in Homeland, Billions and Band of Brothers but the actor now takes on an entirely new role as he pursues a career in music. The 52-year-old Emmy and Golden Globe-winning star released his debut album ‘Mission Creep’ in June and is now about to embark on a UK tour, which includes a date at Leeds’ Brudenell Social Club on 1 October.

It is always a risky career move when someone at the top of their respective profession switches lanes to uncharted territory. This risk isn’t lost on Lewis as he is fully aware of the pitfalls and public perception when an actor ventures into music.

Nothing Is What It Seems

by Damianista | Fan Fun With Damian Lewis | September 24, 2023

A road test. An amazing technology. An evening at the casino. This fun episode aptly called ‘DMV’ demonstrates once again that nothing is what it seems in Billions!

It is time for employee performance reviews at MPC but the employees  are not comfortable about it thanks to the recent employee survey and feedback drama at the firm. Even though the boss recuses himself from rewarding and punishing anyone on the team, the employees are feeling uneasy with the composition of the review panel; e.g.  Scooter, who is not in touch with them at all (they do not even invite him to the movie night because they know he would never show up!) is sitting on the  review committee. They ask the panel to skip the review for a year…

Billions Season 7, Episode 7 Recap: Morals vs. Business

Prince Is Amassing Potential Enemies

by Kyle Fowle | Entertainment Weekly | September 24, 2023

This week’s Billions begins with a little bribery, but it’s not from the usual suspects of the business world. Instead, Chuck Sr. is attempting to bribe a driving instructor into giving Kevin a passing grade on his driving test, which he’s failed miserably. The bribe doesn’t go over well, as the instructor calls the cops, and before long Chuck and Wendy are wrapped up in sorting out the situation and getting Chuck Sr. off the hook with the law.

While there isn’t a ton of intrigue in the details of that plot, there’s some interesting character insight. Essentially, Chuck and Wendy realize that they’ve been fairly absent parents lately, which led to Kevin seeking out his grandpa to take him to his driving test. This realization ties in with Chuck’s journey so far this season, where despite his focus on taking down Prince he’s also trying to be a better man, to allow his moral compass to guide him. By the end of the episode he’s made amends with his son, and he may even have reconnected with Wendy in a way that will pay off against Prince later on this season.
