Actor Damian blown away by kids
HE’S worked with Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks but actor Damien Lewis told me he was blown away by the talent of a group of youngsters in Somers Town.
The Band of Brothers and Forsyte Saga star (pictured), who’s just moved into Tufnell Park, is the patron of a unique charity called Scene and Heard which pairs inner city children with volunteer actors to write and perform plays.
Five Somers Town children have taken part in the latest project – a series of short radio plays being broadcast on the BBC World Service – with Lewis starring in Love and Death by 11-year-old Promi Chowdhury.
“It gives the children a chance to express themselves away from the streets,” says Lewis, who became a father himself earlier this year with actress partner Helen McCrory. “All the plays come directly from the children’s imagination so there are no limits to what they conjure up.”
