Leading man Bobby Axelrod is signing off. Billions star Lewis confirmed the news in October that he would be leaving the Showtime drama after five seasons.

Thanking the network and series co-creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the actor tweeted, “A pleasure and a privilege to play Axe for five seasons with some of the smartest, funniest most talented cast and crew I’ve worked with. I’ll miss the Billions family.”

He added, “Yep, some jobs are more than just a job…. Love.”

The 31 Most Shocking TV Moments of 2021

Axe: Forever Our Billions King

by EW Staff | Entertainment Weekly | December 16, 2021

From surprise exits to surprise appearances and every dick pic in between, 2021 delivered its fair share of television shocks. (We still haven’t wrapped our heads around everything that happened in Squid Game.) Below, we’ve rounded up the 31 moments that we haven’t stopped thinking about since they first made our jaws drop.

Damian Lewis Leaves Billions

Since day one of Billions, the ferocious rivalry of Damian Lewis’ swaggering, fast-talking billionaire Bobby “Axe” Axelrod and Paul Giamatti’s power-hungry, grudge-holding U.S. attorney Chuck Rhoades has been the driving force of the series. Yes, they were briefly allies, but Billions was always at its best when those two guys were in a room going at each other. And the masterful season 5 finale, “No Direction Home,” brought back memories of the old days, with a few blistering interactions between Axe and Chuck. But it turned out to be a setup for the reveal that this would be the end of Lewis’ time as a series regular. With Chuck closing in and Michael Prince (Corey Stoll) betraying him, Axe accepted defeat and fled to Switzerland to avoid arrest. While Prince might now be taking over his business, Axe will forever be our Billions king. —Derek Lawrence

Showtime and Concepts Launch Streetwear and Sneakers Capsule – April 28, 2020

Billions Apparel Collaboration

by Obi Anyanwu | WWD | April 28, 2020

The Boston-based boutique and Showtime Networks are launching on May 1 a capsule collection for the drama series “Billions,” to coincide with the May 3 premiere of the show’s fifth season.

The apparel capsule, which is the first collaboration between the two, is comprised of black and gray T-shirts and hoodies featuring scenes from past episodes, and phrases “anyone can be bought” and “what drives you doesn’t understand enough” on the back. The collection will be available exclusively on the Concepts web site for $35 to $100 and will continue through the summer with a footwear release.

The boutique’s management has been a fan of the show since its beginning, which fueled the capsule, but the team drew inspiration from the show, nostalgia, luxury and New York City for the collection’s design. “Honestly, we would have been involved since the beginning if we could, but the timing couldn’t be better than now,” said Deon Point, creative director of Concepts.

Broadcasters Sign Up for A+E’s Damian Lewis: Spy Wars – Oct 11, 2019

Going Global

by Joseph O’Halloran | Rapid TV News | October 11, 2019  -and-
by Peter White | Deadline | October 11, 2019

As we head into the leading global content trade show and world’s entertainment market MIPCOM 2019 next week, A+E Networks and A+E Networks UK have signed a slew of top international broadcasters for its latest factual co-production, Damian Lewis: Spy Wars.

Earlier this year we reported here that Spy Wars was heading to the Smithsonian Channel for US markets, a joint venture between CBS Corporation’s Showtime and the Smithsonian Institute. And now it seems other broadcasters will be joining Smithsonian Channel’s lead. The docu-drama currently airing on History UK and Blaze in the UK will now be available in the following markets: Blue Ant (Canada); POP TV (Slovenia); Bilibil.com (China); TVNZ (New Zealand); Historia and Atresmedia (Spain). A+E Networks says that multiple other deals are in negotiation. No word yet when television viewing audiences in other countries will see Damian hit their small screens, but rumor has it early 2020 for US customers.

In the series, award-winning actor Damian Lewis unpacks some of the most thrilling covert missions in modern-day history with the help of new declassified information, high-profile experts, and intelligence officers who were there. The program ranges from the most notorious spy exchange of recent times to the fake film production that freed Americans during the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis to in-depth profiles of the world’s most skilled and lethal double agents and has been described as James Bond meets every John le Carré thriller you’ve ever read.

Damian Lewis: Spy Wars is executive produced by Alaska TV’s Chris Fouracre, Ian Lamarra, and Paul Sommers in association with Lewis’ own recently launched Rookery Productions with brother Gareth Lewis.
