Damian Lewis Does the Time Warp with Leo & Co. in New Tarantino Film – Nov 27, 2018

Hollywood Don’t Make Films Like They Used To!

by Ross King | Sunday Post | November 27, 2018

Dressing rooms have been replaced by trailers, expensive locations are now green screen – and the gin and tonics have been replaced by avocado and matcha salads.

But the latest movie by Quentin Tarantino is taking a leaf out of old Hollywood’s book.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a violent crime thriller based on the Manson Family Murders in the ’60s. It features Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and British star Damian Lewis, who plays legendary actor Steve McQueen.

I bumped into Damian at the BAFTA Britannia Awards and he told me he loved working with the Pulp Fiction director.

“Quentin’s film is going to blow people away.” – Damian Lewis on Britannia Awards Red Carpet

Well, some dreams come true and we have been living the dream since we got word late April that Damian Lewis would play the iconic Hollywood actor Steve McQueen in Quentin Tarantino’s latest movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood!

As our long-time readers know, we have been rooting for Damian to play Steve McQueen for more than three years now. JaniaJania wrote this article about why Damian Lewis should play Steve McQueen when we got word back in 2015 that a Steve McQueen biopic was in works. And she also tweeted a question to be asked to Damian at NY Times Talks in 2016 about whether he would consider playing McQueen.

What is it Like to Play Steve McQueen? – Oct 28, 2018

Raybans: He’s Got the Look

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 28, 2018

During a recent red carpet interview with Variety, Damian was asked what is was like to play Steve McQueen. He stated,

“It’s scary because it’s a little bit like saying ‘Yea, sure, I’ll play Elvis.’ You know, people have views, people have views about that. But I…hopefully we’ve had a good stab at it.”

When asked how he prepared for the role he responded,

“Same way I prepare for everything. Endless material, video material, film material, literature, dialect coaching, physicalizing him, getting into his body and then….

and a pair of Raybans?

“And a pair of Ray…there was a pair…maybe, maybe. I’m not going to give anything away at this point.”

Damian Receives His Britannia Award – Oct 26, 2018

Our Brit Gets the Britannia

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 26, 2018

Our favorite, most talented actor of our generation (and quite the ham), Mr. Damian Lewis, received the well-deserved and long overdue BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Award for Excellence in Television this evening at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Britannia Awards are BAFTA Los Angeles’ highest accolades, recognizing both outstanding British talent and exceptional international artistry through their body of work. Damian is talented and exceptional, no doubt.

As Fan Fun with Damian Lewis writes, for more than a decade and a half Damian has enticed and intrigued audiences with highly complex, compromised, flawed characters he has brought to life on television, from steadfast Dick Winters, constipated Soames Forsyte, and quirky Charlie Crews to damaged Nicholas Brody, radical Henry VIII and currently, the ruthless Bobby Axelrod.

But where did it all begin? Damian’s first lead role in television was Lt. Neil Loughrey in Warriors (1997), a story about a group of British peacekeepers during the Bosnian war and ethic cleansing of 1993.

How great was it to honor Damian’s excellence in television full circle, as BAFTA TV award-winning actor Matthew Macfadyen, Damian’s Warriors co-star, presented him with the award tonight!

Walking the red carpet, Matthew was asked what his first impression of Damian was over 20 years ago,

“He’s very confident, the room sort of stops when he’s in it. This is a very nice thing to do, especially for Damian.”

In addition to Matthew Macfadyen, this year’s presenters also included Viola Davis, Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Favreau, Peter Farrelly, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

Damian to be Feted at BAFTA’s 2018 Britannia Awards – Sept 27, 2018

2018 Britannia Award for Excellence in Television

by Peter White | Deadline | September 27, 2018

The British actor and producer will receive the Britannia Award for Excellence in Television at the event, which takes place on October 26 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  BAFTA TV Award-winning Actor Matthew Macfadyen will present his Warriors co-star Damian with the award. The Britannia Award is the highest accolade presented by BAFTA Los Angeles, and is a celebration of achievement honoring individuals and companies from the US, UK and beyond who have dedicated their careers or corporate missions to advancing the art-forms of the moving image. The Awards are presented annually at The British Academy Britannia Awards gala dinner, where peers and colleagues celebrate the work and accomplishments of the distinguished honorees and gather to celebrate the fruitful relationship between the UK and US industries.

He joins this year’s previously announced honorees including Steve McQueen, Cate Blanchett and Kevin Feige. Lewis recently completed production on Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in which he plays Steve McQueen.

“Damian’s ability to completely transform himself into iconic characters on screen ranging from King Henry VIII to Bobby Axelrod is a testament to his genius. With his unforgettable performances he consistently draws audiences in and takes us on a gripping journey deep into the human psyche.” said BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman Kieran Breen. “We are delighted to celebrate his achievements and honor him with the Britannia Award for Excellence in Television at this year’s ceremony.”

The first Britannia Award was presented in 1989 to Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli, pioneer producer of the James Bond films. Since the gala’s inception, the Britannia Awards ceremony has expanded to include multiple presentations celebrating living legends, rising British stars and internationally acclaimed colleagues.

Watch this year’s Britannia Awards live on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 5:45-11:55 p.m. Pacific time on BritBox. If you can attend in person at the Beverly Hilton Hotel located at 9876 Wilshire Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, tickets range from $300-$500 and can be purchased here.
