From the Trader’s Desk: Billions S4 E10 New Year’s Day – May 31, 2019

Moments in Time

And so we’re told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
New Year’s Day – U2

Hello and welcome to the Trader’s Desk. I know I have said this a few times (and we still have two episodes left) but this may be my favorite episode of the season! From the opening, to getting answers to questions I have had for 4 seasons, this was exactly the episode I needed after last week’s break.

I want to break my post down into two parts: quick observations, and then diving into particular moments. I believe certain moments of “New Year’s Day” are pivotal for some of our favorite characters.

Observations

I could not think of a better opening sequence than the one we were privileged to get this week. The combination of the wintery scenes of my favorite places in downtown Manhattan, accompanied by the unique voice of Bono from one of my favorite bands, U2, was just simply genius. I have had the pleasure of seeing U2 in concert several times, and all I can say is that there are front men, and then there’s Bono.

Taylor buying up shares in the main supplier to Rebecca’s Saler’s stores is a smart move. TMC basically controls the oxygen to the stores now, since Kling Appliances was 63% of Saler’s revenue. Rebecca will try to look for another supplier to buy, but some of the names she mentioned (Samsung, LG) are huge companies. The market cap of Samsung is $272B, and while smaller, the market cap of LG is $4.8B. Neither one are really options for Rebecca, since Saler’s has more debt than cash. It will be very interesting to see how this works, or if Axe can ride to the rescue once again for Rebecca.

Bonnie is now the Axe Cap IR person? This just seems strange. Don’t get me wrong – I love Bonnie, but I truly think she is much better at her Bloomberg trading than out meeting with current and potential clients. Bonnie’s personality is an “acquired” taste, so I’m wondering if this was done to break up her budding relationship with Dollar Bill. As always, Billions doesn’t do things just to do them, so I’m curious to see where this new role takes Bonnie. Continue reading From the Trader’s Desk: Billions S4 E10 New Year’s Day – May 31, 2019

Billions Dining Guide Season 4, Episodes 1-9 UPDATED – May 10, 2019

Eat and Drink Like a Billionaire

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | April 16, 2019 (updated May 10, 2019)

One of my favorite things about my favorite TV show is how it showcases the New York dining scene from hole-in-the-walls to neighborhood gems to Michelin-starred restaurants. And it has been my pleasure to share the information about restaurants appearing on the show first in my weekly recaps and then in a full dining guide by the end of the season for Season 1Season 2, and Season 3.

And now that our Billions dining guides are some of the most popular posts on the blog, and that we constantly get questions about the restaurants on the show, I have decided to kick off our dining guide early with the restaurants our characters visited in the first two episodes in Season 4 and update the post as we go. Towards Darkness: Billions Star Maggie Siff Gets Candid – March 20, 2019

Wendy Rhoades: So Powerful Without the Bitch Title

by Michael Idato | March 20, 2019 | Sydney Morning Herald

As TV couples go, Billions‘ Wendy and Chuck Rhoades are a little out of the ordinary.

By day Wendy is the confident in-house performance coach at Axe Capital, encouraging her boss Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) to ever greater heights of financial chicanery.

At night she goes home to Chuck (Paul Giamatti), the US attorney determined to bring down Bobby, with whom she engages in Bondage/Discipline-Sadism/Masochism (BDSM) role play, with Wendy in the dominant role and Chuck as the slave.

It is, admits actress Maggie Siff, a lot to take in.

“Maggie, the psychotherapist, analysing Wendy, would probably say that both of those relationships are terrible for her in terms of her discovering her highest self,” Siff says.

“I think both of those relationships have driven her to towards darkness and in her desire to stick it out and help each of them succeed and ascend, she’s paid a price.”

Maggie Siff on How Billions Adapted to the #MeToo and Time’s Up Era – March 14, 2019

Billions: Evolution of the Hit Drama

by Evan Real | Hollywood Reporter | March 14, 2019

The Showtime star opens up to The Hollywood Reporter about the evolution of the hit drama, noting that the writers room is “very tuned in to” today’s social climate.

It was a different time when Billions first premiered on Showtime in January of 2016. Donald Trump wasn’t president, and “toxic masculinity” wasn’t as much of a catch phrase as it is now. But more than three years and four seasons later, society’s surge of feminism in the #MeToo and Time’s Up era has also penetrated the writers room of the hit drama.

In a recent In Studio interview with The Hollywood Reporter, star Maggie Siff — who plays self-possessed psychiatrist Wendy Rhoades on Billions — explained how the series has adapted to the current social climate.
