How Oasis, Damian Lewis, David Beckham and More Shaped Joe Webb’s New Jazz Album

– Hamstrings and Hurricanes –

Jazz musician Job Webb, who has played keyboard/piano for Damian’s live Mission Creep gigs, spoke to NME after being shortlisted for the 2025 Mercury Prize for Hamstrings and Hurricanes and about how it was inspired by Damian, David Beckham, Lionel Messi, as well as his band’s tribute to Oasis and seeking the approval of Noel and Liam Gallagher.

Webb spoke of rehearsing for Damian’s band one day and then a conversation broke out after lunch about Lionel Messi just getting signed to David Beckham’s football club Inter Miami CF. Webb also knew that Damian and Beckham had played in charity football matches for Soccer Aid. Webb then shared his interest in going to Miami to watch a match when Damian reminded him it was a really long way to travel for an aging football player whose hamstrings could go at any moment, let along taking into account the Florida hurricane season.

And there you have it – Joe Webb’s highly anticipated full-length album Hamstrings & Hurricanes was born and is out now! The album has influences from Beethoven to Oasis to Duke Ellington.
