Orwell: 2+2=5 and Damian Lewis Nominated for Critics Choice Documentary Awards

Orwell: 2+2=5 leads the pack with seven nominations including Best Documentary Feature for the 10th annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards.

The film’s other nominations are Raoul Peck for Best Director, Alexandra Strauss for Best Editing, Alexei Aigui for Best Score, Best Narration (Written by George Orwell, Adapted by Raoul Peck, Performed by Damian Lewis), Best Archival Documentary, and Best Political Documentary.

Other nominated documentaries for Best Documentary Feature include 2000 Meters to Andriivka, The Alabama Solution, Apocalypse in the Tropics, Cover-Up, Deaf President Now!, Pee-wee as Himself, The Perfect Neighbor (securing 6 noms), Riefenstahl, and The Tale of Silvan.

Honoring the year’s outstanding achievements in nonfiction filmmaking, the winners will be revealed at a gala event on November 9, 2025 at the Edison Ballroom in Manhattan, New York hosted by actor, writer and producer Aasif Mandvi. 

The Critics Choice Impact Award will go to legendary documentarian Ken Burns, presented by Christine Baranski. The award recognizes filmmakers whose work has illuminated history, inspired public discourse, and deepened cultural understanding — a legacy Burns has embodied throughout his decades-long career. Damian recently worked with Ken Burns in The American Revolution documentary.

The overall 31st annual Critics Choice Awards will be telecast live on USA networks E! and USA on Sunday, January 4, 2026 7:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The star-studded show will once again be held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California and will continue its combined film and television awards format, honoring the best in cinematic, televised, and streaming achievement.
