Heartland Film is a nonprofit arts organization that runs the Heartland Film Festival in October, the Academy Award®-Qualifying Indy Shorts Film Festival in July and other year-round programs. Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, Heartland Film was founded in 1991 with the mission to curate, promote and celebrate thoughtful and engaging films – films that do more than entertain.
Since 2010, Heartland Film has selected more than 200 studio-released films to honor with the Truly Moving Picture Award (TMPA). The laurel serves as a curatorial standard to enable moviegoers to identify impactful films that do more than entertain.
Submissions are received directly from studios and producers for consideration. Films submitted to Heartland Film for Truly Moving Picture Award consideration are judged on their overall artistic and technical quality. Although some Truly Moving Picture Award-winning films may be shown at the annual Heartland Film Festival, the award is not tied to the event; Heartland Film bestows the award on a rolling basis throughout the year.
