Thanks to Funn Lim for this news posted on the London Evening Standard.co.uk that Lord Archer thinks Damian Lewis is the best choice to play Mallory in the movie:
GOOD news for Lord Archer. He has sold the rights to the film adaptation of his book on George Mallory, Paths of Glory, to Columbia. Interestingly, the millionaire novelist is keener to see Damian Lewis cast in the role, rather than the favourite, Christian Bale, which might be because Lewis has played Archer himself in the satire Jeffrey Archer: The Truth. “We’re about to sign the contract this week,” Archer said. “Columbia have bought it which is good because a lot of people say they’re going to make a film and you know it’s all talk, Columbia are a serious outfit. Everybody says Christian Bale should play it. I think Damian Lewis is a very fine actor and obviously I’d be delighted if Christian Bale played it but I’m a huge fan of Damian Lewis, I think he’s a very fine actor.” Did Archer enjoy Lewis’s take on him? “Unfortunately, I never saw it,” he replies.
Mike Hughes of the News-Leader.com has advised readers to take advantage of this opportunity to “Get another look at brilliant Band of Brothers” and Brooke Cain told readers of the NewsObserver.com: “What to Watch on Saturday: Band of Brothers marathon on Spike.”
» Valentine in “Two Gentleman of Verona”
» Alcibiades in “Timon of Athens”
» Laertes in “Hamlet”
Actor Damian Lewis, who cycles regularly, both at home in London and LA, and when he is filming, said: “I live in North London and I can get to Soho on bike routes in 15 minutes and I love it. We should have more cycle routes. It’s a fantastic way to get about.
“We also ride a lot together as a family. I love having my son and my daughter on the back of my bike. It’s a great way of taking your kids around. Its gets them out of the buggy – and it’s a real treat for them…

DVDs coming out Aug. 25; “Life,” season two
When a wrongfully imprisoned policeman finally gets out of jail, he’s a changed man. Though few on the force trust him, he returns to work solving gruesome murders, but now with a Zen-like appreciation for life. Damian Lewis is enjoyably off-the-wall as the star of this unique cop show on NBC. Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Sarah Shahi co-stars as his serious-minded partner, and Donal Logue joins the cast for the 2008-09 season. 21 episodes, 15 hours. DVD extras: deleted scenes, a gag reel and audio commentaries. From Universal. nbc.com.
Damian Lewis will be taking part in the The Prostate Cancer Charity London Ride on September 19th. From the RoadCyclingUK site:
Lewis is urging people to join him and ride with their heroes as the charity’s new cycling event hits the capital. Lewis said: “I would encourage everyone to take part in the London Ride. The best thing about it is that the roads will be closed and there will not be any cars around. What a brilliant way to see the sights of London; I will be bringing the whole family along to enjoy the carnival atmosphere. Anyone taking on this challenge will also be cycling to show their support for a great cause.
