Damian Lewis Attends BAFTA Television Awards for A Spy Among Friends and Also Presents

A Spy Among Friends: Best Mini-Series

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | May 14, 2023

Damian, looking super suave in his suit, attended the The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards this evening on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Royal Festival Hall in London. In usual fashion Damian hammed it up for photographers with a series of very animated poses at the step and repeat board, at times taking videos of the onlookers to document the experience. View the most hilarious photos from tonight’s event in our Gallery here.

His ITVX drama A Spy Among Friends was nominated for best TV mini-series of 2022 but lost to Mood. Damian was also a presenter at the evening’s ceremony, presenting the Leading Actress Award to Kate Winslet. According to Huffington Post, Damian jokingly told the audience:

“I’m surprised you’re all still here. It’s a brilliant bar out there, I’ve been in a couple of times.”

Damian Lewis Attends ‘A Spy Among Friends’ World Premiere at BFI London Film Festival 2022

World Premiere and Red Carpet

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 7, 2022

A Spy Among Friends starring Damian Lewis received its World Premiere at BFI London Film Festival Friday, October 7, 2022. Damian spoke with press for interviews and walked the red carpet before the screening. Episodes one and two of A Spy Among Friends premiered at 6:30 p.m. on screen one at Curzon Mayfair to a sold out crowd. The drama will consist of a total of six episodes. Not only is Damian in one of the lead roles, but he also served as a producer. A Spy Among Friends is set to air in November 2022 on the new streaming platform ITVX in the UK. US release pending.

In 1963, MI6 agent Kim Philby (Guy Pearce) was revealed to be a KGB spy in one of the most humiliating chapters of Britain’s involvement in the Cold War. This adaptation of Ben Macintyre’s best-selling book explores the impact of this notorious betrayal of the British establishment. It focuses specifically on what happened during the final meeting between Philby and his close friend and fellow MI6 agent Nicholas Elliott (Damian Lewis), in the days leading up to Philby’s defection.

Outstanding performances from Lewis, Pearce and Anna Maxwell Martin bring to life the layered and deeply intelligent script by showrunner Alexander Carey (who previously worked with Damian on Homeland). Part gripping spy thriller in the Le Carré mould, part incisive dissection of the British class and power structures still in place today, A Spy Among Friends is, above all, a moving portrait of friendship and betrayal.

The 66th annual festival took place in venues across the UK capital beginning Wednesday October 5 and will go through Sunday October 16, 2022. Video clips:

Damian Lewis Does the Time Warp with Leo & Co. in New Tarantino Film – Nov 27, 2018

Hollywood Don’t Make Films Like They Used To!

by Ross King | Sunday Post | November 27, 2018

Dressing rooms have been replaced by trailers, expensive locations are now green screen – and the gin and tonics have been replaced by avocado and matcha salads.

But the latest movie by Quentin Tarantino is taking a leaf out of old Hollywood’s book.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a violent crime thriller based on the Manson Family Murders in the ’60s. It features Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and British star Damian Lewis, who plays legendary actor Steve McQueen.

I bumped into Damian at the BAFTA Britannia Awards and he told me he loved working with the Pulp Fiction director.

What is it Like to Play Steve McQueen? – Oct 28, 2018

Raybans: He’s Got the Look

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 28, 2018

During a recent red carpet interview with Variety, Damian was asked what is was like to play Steve McQueen. He stated,

“It’s scary because it’s a little bit like saying ‘Yea, sure, I’ll play Elvis.’ You know, people have views, people have views about that. But I…hopefully we’ve had a good stab at it.”

When asked how he prepared for the role he responded,

“Same way I prepare for everything. Endless material, video material, film material, literature, dialect coaching, physicalizing him, getting into his body and then….

and a pair of Raybans?

“And a pair of Ray…there was a pair…maybe, maybe. I’m not going to give anything away at this point.”

Damian Receives His Britannia Award

Our Brit Gets the Britannia

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 26, 2018

Our favorite, most talented actor of our generation (and quite the ham), Mr. Damian Lewis, received the well-deserved and long overdue BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Award for Excellence in Television this evening at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Britannia Awards are BAFTA Los Angeles’ highest accolades, recognizing both outstanding British talent and exceptional international artistry through their body of work. Damian is talented and exceptional, no doubt.

As Fan Fun with Damian Lewis writes, for more than a decade and a half Damian has enticed and intrigued audiences with highly complex, compromised, flawed characters he has brought to life on television, from steadfast Dick Winters, constipated Soames Forsyte, and quirky Charlie Crews to damaged Nicholas Brody, radical Henry VIII and currently, the ruthless Bobby Axelrod.

But where did it all begin? Damian’s first lead role in television was Lt. Neil Loughrey in Warriors (1997), a story about a group of British peacekeepers during the Bosnian war and ethic cleansing of 1993.

How great was it to honor Damian’s excellence in television full circle, as BAFTA TV award-winning actor Matthew Macfadyen, Damian’s Warriors co-star, presented him with the award tonight!

Walking the red carpet, Matthew was asked what his first impression of Damian was over 20 years ago,

“He’s very confident, the room sort of stops when he’s in it. This is a very nice thing to do, especially for Damian.”

In addition to Matthew Macfadyen, this year’s presenters also included Viola Davis, Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Favreau, Peter Farrelly, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
