LIVE REVIEW: Damian Lewis at the Lighthouse, Poole

The Real Thing

by Cliff Moore | Bournemouth Daily Echo | March 26, 2024

ALTHOUGH Damian Lewis will be most familiar for his acting roles, he does have a burgeoning musical career which is slowly emerging into the light.

Here was the star of Band of Brothers, Wolf Hall, Homeland and Billions standing in front of a mic, acoustic guitar in hand (sometimes electric) and backed by a band of young but seasoned professionals.

Lewis the singer, so the story goes, harks back to a post-Eton, pre-stardom time when he busked around Europe. He carried on playing here and there, but acting took over.

VIDEO: Damian Lewis Sings “500 Miles” for Scottish Fans at Oxford Gig

The Proclaimers

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | March 25, 2024

Hollywood star Damian Lewis spontaneously sang “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” for Scottish fans who travelled to Oxford to see him. Amongst the crowd at the show were a couple of women who had travelled down from Scotland to watch the performance. The pair made Damian aware of this after shouting during a break between songs and given their nationality and the distance they had travelled, the singer replied hilariously. He spontaneously started to sing the classic Scottish song “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers for the pair. The women as well as the rest of the crowd were left stunned, but then joined in with singing and clapping as Damian and his band put on quite the show.  When finished he told the crowd in his best Scottish accent, “That’s just so you wouldn’t come up here and bust my ball bags!” Watch snippet of video below:

A Sold-Out Show

by Hannah Compton | Building Our Own Nashville | March 24, 2024

It’s somewhat a night of community when Stroudies gather together for a night at The Sub Rooms. A relatively small town, having such a high calibre of artists means a great deal and people truly make the effort to be there. There will always be someone you know in the audience on whichever night you attend but tonight for Damian Lewis it felt even more of a community with many of Lewis’ local friends in the audience.

A sold out show from as soon as the tickets went on sale, The Sub Rooms in Stroud was buzzing with fans eager to hear his music live.

Life’s Too Short To Not Do What You Love

by This Morning | YouTube | March 19, 2024

Damian was a guest on This Morning, Tuesday, March 19, 2024 with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley. He discussed music, his debut album Mission Creep, his UK Tour Part 2 and playing upcoming sold-out shows.  Renowned for hit series like Homeland and Billions, once embarked on a journey across Europe with nothing but a tent, a guitar and a dream of becoming the next Elvis. Now, after decades of silver screen success and a tough couple of years that reminded him ‘life’s too short’, he’s revisiting his childhood rockstar dreams. He joins us in-studio to tell us about putting down the scripts and picking up the microphone stand as he continues his UK tour.

It’s not too late to see one of his shows. Tour schedule and ticket information here.

A Rocking Good Night With Damian Lewis

Damian Cracks At It

by Jacquee Storozynski-Toll | Southend Theatre Scene | March 12, 2024

Who knew that Damian Lewis could sing? The actor best known for his work on Wolf Hall and Homeland amongst others can really rock it with the best of them. He also plays a mean acoustic guitar. Apparently, before he was famous he busked around Europe with a rucksack and a tent, so has had plenty of experience. This time he is on the second part of a tour to advertise his debut album Mission Creep.

However, before he arrived Amelie, a young singer songwriter, treated us to a set. She demonstrated her talents singing, playing the guitar and keyboards. One song The Night We Called it a Day was co-written with Guy Chambers who co-wrote many Robbie Williams songs. She announced that she would be having an EP album out later in the year.

Good as she was, it was Damian that the audience had come to see. He zoomed on to the stage, looking very different to his slick screen image, dancing around the stage in jeans and a waistcoat, clutching his guitar and being every inch a rocker. He then launched into a soulful rendition of the first song on the album Down on the Bowery, following this with a bluesy number Soho Tango.

Backed by a four-piece band and accompanied by Amelie, he went through most of the songs on the album. They covered various genres. Some were Rockabilly, some jazzy and bluesy and we were even treated to a Chuck Berry duck walk. As one song ended, another started his voice adapting to smooth ballads, growly rocks, and high-pitched blues, to cover every style that his skills as an actor could bring to the song. Wanna Grow Old In Paris, had a haunting quality, My Little One with the bluesy harmonica, was in the style of Dr. Feelgood, then there was the beautiful She Comes. This was apparently written as a tribute to his late wife Helen McCrory, but he just called it a song about a ghost.

Damian Lewis Makes a Welcome Return to Sussex

“An absolute belting set of variety, strong songwriting and class musicianship, and a sea of grinning faces”

DAMIAN LEWIS – TRADING BOUNDARIES, SHEFFIELD GREEN 8.3.24

With Brighton & Hove News having reviewed Damian Lewis in Hove, back in November 2023 (Review HERE) on the first leg of his tour to support the release of his first album, ‘Mission Creep’, it was interesting to see how he fared back in the live environment a few months further down the line and at the beginning of the second leg of his tour. Would it be more of the same or would we get any variation in the songs?

The answer to that was a clear…Yes, there would be variety, and in many ways this was almost a different show entirely.

However, before we get into the set changes it is clear that this is a second stage of the ‘Mission Creep’ album tour and unsurprisingly, with this album being the only one currently available for the fans to listen to, it still held sway with ten of the thirteen album tracks being played tonight.
