Bobby Axelrod and Wendy Rhoades: A Special Relationship, Part VII – March 2, 2020

Why Wendy Rhoades is Bobby Axelrod’s Most Deadly Weapon

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | March 2, 2020

Damian Lewis and Maggie Siff bring to life one of the most intriguing and complex relationships we have ever seen on TV. It is sincere and it is strategic. It is friendly and it is flirty. It is personal and it is professional. It is delicate. It is difficult. It is delicious. The first three seasons have revealed there is no romance in their relationship, but there is real partnership. Bobby and Wendy find meaning in what they built together and can draw the best out of each other. In case you missed my earlier posts on these two, you can find them herehereherehere, here, and here.

Season 4 is a true testament to why Axe values Wendy at a level where he is even willing to go to jail for her. Do not get me wrong, loyalty rules Bobby Axelrod’s world and he can drop Wendy in a millisecond should he suspect any disloyalty as he did in Season 1 Finale. But as long as he trusts Wendy is one loyal confidante and also the smartest person in the room, there is nothing Axe will not do to keep Wendy safe and happy. And the key is in his words to Wendy in Season 4 Episode 10 New Year’s Day where Bobby remembers the exact time and place he knew Wendy was a keeper. Filthy Rich: 5 Reasons Billions is Better Than Succession (and vise versa) – March 2, 2020

From the Dialogue to the Plot Twists

by Philip Etemesi | Screen Rant | March 1, 2020

A case can be made for Don Cheadle’s new Wall Street comedy Black Monday but the two TV shows that currently bring out the best of the world of cutthroat business dealings and wealth are HBO’s Succession and Showtime’s Billions. The two TV shows share plenty of similar themes but a couple of things set them apart.

In Succession, family drama blends with corporate setbacks. Media tycoon Logan Roy’s health declines and his four children all try to win his favor in order to take over the empire when daddy is no longer around. In Billions, billionaire hedge fund manager Bobby “Axe” Axelrod is hunted down by US Attorney Chuck Rhoades for insider training before the two team up to fight common enemies. Here’s an argument for both shows as the better one.

Billions Trailer Teasing Julianna Margulies and Corey Stoll Characters – Feb 10, 2020

At Odds Again

by Aurelie Corinthios | People Magazine | February 10, 2020

“People like us must destroy people like him…”

With the return of Billions just three months away, Showtime has dropped an exciting first teaser trailer for season 5.

And in it, we get our first look at new characters played by Julianna Margulies and Corey Stoll.

Stoll’s character, business titan Michael Prince, appears to be at odds with Axe (Damian Lewis) as he declares, “When I compete, I’m gonna win.”

And it looks like Axe and Chuck’s (Paul Giamatti) alliance may be on even shakier ground than where we left off, as Axe threateningly reminds him, “I want you to remember that when we weren’t friends, the world was a very uncomfortable place.”

Series creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien tell EW they’d been trying to enlist the two actors since Billions launched in 2016, but the timing never worked out. Or, as Stoll says with a laugh, “Frankly, I was holding out for something a bit more exciting in terms of the role.” Either way, Koppelman and Levien’s persistence paid off.

The 100 Best Shows Right Now – Sept 9, 2019

TV Guide Ranks Peak TV’s Finest Offerings

by Liam Matthews | TV Guide | September 9, 2019

Game of Thrones‘ watch has ended, Fleabag raised an eyebrow to us for the last time, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend took its final bow, and The Big Bang Theory finally fixed that dang elevator. The last 12 months brought fans of some of television’s biggest shows the one thing they’ve been missing: closure.

But even after the conclusion of so many important series, thus rendering those programs ineligible for our ranking of the 100 best shows on right now (words mean stuff!), the caliber of content may be stronger than ever before. In the last month alone, viewers have been able to watch new episodes of GLOWSuccessionDear White People, and Power, and catch up on beloved series like The CrownThe Marvelous Mrs. MaiselSupernatural, and The Good Fight before their new seasons premiere. And who hasn’t gotten sucked into a marathon of SVU or Snapped at least once over the past year? This lineup will only grow in the future, with the launch of Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, and, heck, even Quibi? Quibi! (Say it out loud, it’s fun.)

That’s our take, at least: Whittling down the list of best shows right now from some 1,700 options in this age of Peak TV was a painstaking task, and our editors and writers spent weeks arguing over which shows should make the cut. That some favorites were left off our definitive list speaks to the era; never has watching television been more rewarding than right now. These are the 100 best shows at this very moment.
