Like three delicately delicious birds, Wendy, Bobby, and Chuck are poised above the deep fryer in Billions Season 3, Episode 6, ‘The Third Ortolan.”
If Wendy had only waited to make the call to short Ice Juice once she was at a safe distance away from pinging the same cell tower pinged by Chuck’s office. Like maybe wait till you’ll on the sidewalk trying to get a cab, or, better yet, hop on the wifi at a Starbucks across town, and then make the call. One barely needs a friend at the NSA to trace such things.
Back when we were talking about which character will prove to be the flaw in the Death Star, who could’ve imagined it’d be Spyros? Not due to any sinister motive, mind you, but simply a misguided attempt to win one for the boss. And, lest there be doubt, Spyros did bring a win for Axe. All evidence points to Wendy having her cake (grabbing a seat for herself on the Axe Cap short) and eating it too (shorting a stock that her husband manipulated Axe into shorting, thereby leaving their joint marital account none the worse for wear). Forgetting that Wendy did it all blindly in a bold move of self and family preservation, the story could easily be framed as her working the play to the Rhoades’ advantage.

The Name of the Game is Wendy

Well, I said it time and again that it is only Wendy’s short that could force Axe and Chuck to take a break from their pissing contest and get themselves and the woman they both care about deeply out of the huge mess called Ice Juice. And the first half of the season has seamlessly built to this climactic episode which I believe is the BEST hour of television in a while, at least since we had Golden Frog Time!
Dollar Bill is not alone in carrying bags full of money for business. We now find Chuck, the US attorney of the SDNY, paying $50K to a man who will plant the slide in Axe’s medicine cabinet while he is away at Art Basel in a few weeks. Axe and Chuck have so much in common that they seriously could have become BFFs in another life. For one, they both know how to deal with vulnerable immigrants! Like Axe ended an American dream by having Maria Gonzalez deported to Guatemala in Episode 2: Wrong Maria Gonzalez, Chuck is now creating an American Dream by promising Mr. Adubo $50K more as well as U.S. visas for his family in Congo once he completes the job.

On the next episode of Billions, Axe and Chuck face mounting evidence of their involvement in the Ice Juice sabotage. Taylor questions Wendy’s authority and motivations at Axe Capital. Connerty makes his case in court but comes up against unexpected witness testimony.

Connerty Gains The Upper Hand
by Dana Feldman | Forbes | April 30, 2018
Showtime’s drama Billions officially hit the halfway point of its third season with the sixth episode entitled “The Third Ortolan” and honestly, the show just keeps getting better. Show creators Brian Koppelman and David Levien were not exaggerating when they said they were taking things to a whole new level this season! And, this week, Showtime announced a fourth season for the cable network’s No. 2 drama series, which averages between 4.5-to-5 million weekly viewers across platforms.
Word-of-mouth from a very loyal legion of fans has helped grow the show’s viewership season-over-season. The series grew throughout the second season on Sunday nights by more than 35% from premiere-to-finale and the third season premiere was the show’s highest-rated ever with the March 25 debut up 23% from last year.
First things first: What is an Ortolan? An Ortolan is a small Eurasian songbird that was formerly eaten as a delicacy, a practice now illegal the world over. Axe (Damian Lewis) and Wags (David Costabile) dine on these tiny birds while covering their heads with white napkins. This is done for two reasons, explains Wags: “To keep the aromas from escaping and to hide this shameful and depraved act from God.”
