Damian Lewis Poised To Star In Cold War Limited Series – July 7, 2020

A Spy Among Friends

by Jake Kanter, Peter White, Nellie Andrea | Deadline | July 7, 2020

EXCLUSIVE: Billions’ Damian Lewis is in negotiations to headline and executive produce a limited series adaptation of bestselling Cold War espionage thriller A Spy Among Friends for Spectrum Originals and UK streamer BritBox.

The six-episode A Spy Among Friends, based on Ben Macintyre’s book, comes from former Homeland executive producer Alexander Cary, Sony Pictures Television and ITV Studios. While filming has been delayed due to COVID-19, production is expected to recommence shortly, with a tentative release planned for the fall of 2021.

A Spy Among Friends follows the defection of notorious British intelligence officer and KGB double agent, Kim Philby (TBD), through the lens of his complex relationship with MI6 colleague and close friend, Nicholas Elliott (Lewis). The show examines espionage through their friendship, the fallout of which affects East-West relations to this day.

Philby was a British spy who notoriously defected to the Soviet Union in the 1950s, betraying secrets to the Russians in the early years of the Cold War. He and Elliott entered the spy game together, but as they rose through the MI6 ranks, Philby turned double agent.

The double-hander was described by the New York Times as having the tropes of an Ian Fleming or John le Carré novel. Indeed, the book itself contains an afterword from spy story master and The Night Manager author le Carré.

Voices of London – Oct 8, 2019

A Night of Poems and Poets Inspired by the Great City of London

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 8, 2019

The Lord Mayor’s Appeal will be hosting their first ever poetry night called Voices of London on Tuesday, November 26, 2019  from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Join the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress for a night of inspirational poetry in the magnificent setting of the Mansion House in London.

The event is curated by Allie Esiri, Helen McCrory, and Kate Birch with a line-up of other celebrated (and secret) actors and vibrant contemporary poets performing work inspired by the great city of London, all in the effort to raise money to help support their charity partners OnSide Youth Zones, Place2Be, Samaritans, and Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation.

And one of those secret actors is Damian! Both Helen  and Damian are patrons/ambassadors of the Sir HvH Arts Foundation.

Seems like Damian will be in town from filming Billions in New York City only two days prior to this event – specifically, on November 24 since he will be co-hosting the Evening Standard Theatre Awards in London with Helen.

To book tickets and for more information about Voices of London, please visit Lord Mayor’s Appeal.org here. For questions about the event, please email events@thelordmayorsappeal.org or call 020 7332 1582. Standard tickets are £100 and under 26-year-old tickets are £50. Tickets include a champagne and canapé reception, poetry readings and fundraising raffle. Dress code: smart casual.

Here’s the Scoop – Sept 20, 2019

I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Damian Videos

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | September 20, 2019

Damian is endorsing his neighbor and fellow Tufnell Park community store Ruby Violet Ice Cream and Sorbet in a crowd sourcing effort. The store is seeking investments to meet exciting new opportunities because the increased demand has made their small kitchen unable to meet the range and size of orders. By upgrading their equipment and workspace, they will be able to meet existing and future demand, and keep innovating.

Helen talks about their spectacular, lip-smacking ice cream that is made with organic milk and fresh fruit in a video located here, where you can also donate to help the crowd funding effort. Ruby Violet Ice specializes in vegan sorbets and exotic creations of unusual flavors. They are the wizards of ice cream and like Damian says, it’s a win, win!

Our Kind of Traitor: A Behind the Scenes Filming Location

by Betty Wood | The Spaces | November 9, 2018

The home of MI6 agent Hector Meredith, played by Damian in the 2016 adaptation of John Le Carre’s Our Kind of Traitor, has been listed as ‘Property of the Week’ for a cool £1.495m.

The three-bedroom Langton Way property was built to a design by architects Peter Foggo and David Thomas in the early 1960s and is nestled, almost hidden, behind an inconspicuous brick wall in London’s Blackheath. The midcentury home has cocooning timber-lined interiors with rooms that are packed with warm wooden surfaces, including maple floors and pine ceilings. Floating cedar partitions informally divide its open-play layout while floor-to-ceiling glass bookends the main living spaces, creating sight-lines to its leafy garden. There is a wood-burning stove and white-washed brick walls, and a huge skylight channels light into the living room. Take a tour and view the slideshow here.

Damian Voices the Talking Statue of George Orwell, Part II

Damian Lewis Called Me on My Smartphone

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | December 22, 2017

His voice. That distinguished, recognizable voice. Yes, THAT voice. Whether it’s soothing poetry reads, children’s bedtime stories or a narrated documentary, we know that voice! I’ve often said Damian could sell me a tube of toothpaste should he ever voiced a commercial ad one day, whether Crest, Colgate, Rembrandt – hell, take your pick. And fans have often said he could read the phonebook to them and they’d listen.

Many of his U.S. fans think his British accent alone is dreamy, but combine that with his velvety tone, it’s Mozart to anyone’s ears – always with the right amount of inflection, emphasis and dramatic pause. And perfectly modulated to portray emotions of wrath, bewilderment or exhilaration. That is our beloved Damian Lewis.
