Damian’s Diary – Oct 20, 2018

Help! I’m Meeting Hanks

by Weekend Reporters | Daily Mail | October 19, 2018

Some of today’s biggest stars have written for us in the past – including Damian Lewis, who wrote this hilarious diary about his big break in Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s WWII TV series Band of Brothers. Weekend Magazine shared extracts from Damian Lewis’s diary as a rising star:

Late August 1999 – Call from my agent, Stephanie Randall. Hollywood’s coming to town. Hurrah. Another chance to record myself on a tape for some big blockbuster which will gather dust on a shelf in LA. ‘This is different,’ Stephanie stresses, ‘It’s Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. They’re seeing everybody, and they want you to play an American. It’s gonna be huge.’

Day of audition – I head off on my motorbike. It rains on me, I arrive, soaked and walk down some steps into a colourless Soho basement.

TV’s 10 Most Moving Moments – Oct 19, 2018

Gut Punches That Make Your Mascara Run

by Matthew Gilbert | The Boston Globe | October 18, 2018

“This Is Us” is known for making fans cry, as the Pearsons tackle their weekly traumas and the producers crank the Cat Stevens. It’s prime time’s Wonderful Wizard of Waaahs, the bawl game whose home runs call for tons of tissues. But to be honest, the NBC drama hasn’t made me cry once, or even well up.

Other shows, however, have left me wrung out over the years, and I have a list of TV moments that have wrenched my heart. There have been countless occasions when unscripted TV has left me terribly sad — just Google the episode of “The View” when Joe Biden consoled Meghan McCain over her father’s illness. You will be shaken and you will be stirred. But it’s more impressive when a scripted series manages to be truly affecting, when the writing and the acting are finely gauged to successfully make the mascara run.

It’s as easy to bungle emotional peaks as it is to botch humor, so here’s to some honestly elicited tears. Here are 10 of my favorite gut punches.

Vote Dick Winters Now! – Oct 5, 2018

Greatest HBO Character of All Time

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 5, 2018

Click on the Twitter link below where “people are talking about this” and vote for Major Dick Winters from Band of Brothers, now!

UPDATE:

The results were all over the place. Some went with current characters, others delved deep into their back catalogue. Few, far as we could tell, mentioned any of the footballers on their early show 1st & 10, nor Arli$$. Most people, though, have ignored the whole “500 words or less” part and merely communicated in the way most people do these days: via gifs. Several characters made the final results, including Dick Winters! Thank you for voting. See all the results from Uproxx.
