Damian Lewis: Film Inspired My Prince’s Trust Role

Ambassador for Prince’s Trust Influenced by Keane Role

by Fred Attewill | Metro | March 25, 2013

Homeland star Damian Lewis’s role as a homeless man moved him to become an ambassador for a charity helping disadvantaged young people.

The 42-year-old star became involved with the Prince’s Trust after research for his 2004 film Keane, in which he played a man who suffered a nervous breakdown, showed him how easy it was for a comfortable lifestyle to fall apart.

Lewis said: ‘It’s alarming how few steps I trod in the film from a successful life to a breakdown into homelessness – and many kids are closer than adults to this because they don’t have support networks.

In the Vicar of Dibley Comic Relief Special

It’s one of the most anticipated sketches of tonight’s Comic Relief – the moment Damian Lewis meets Geraldine Grainger (aka Dawn French). Appearing in much-loved BBC comedy The Vicar of Dibley as a charming reverend, the British actor – best known for playing double-crossing agent Sgt Nicholas Brody in US espionage drama Homeland – is set to showcase his comedy skills in the 10-minute episode.

Written by Vicar of Dibley creator and Comic Relief co-founder Richard Curtis, the return of the Dibley parishioners after seven years will see the patience of larger-than-life vicar Geraldine tested by Frank’s deafness, Hugo’s celebrity fixation and Owen’s hygiene issues during a group excursion to London.

And following an unlikely encounter with Lewis’s man of the cloth – predictably complicated by Jim’s stutter – poor Gerry is left wondering if the trip was such a good idea after all…

Desire – Official Trailer

In the popular show Homeland he takes on the role of an USMC Sergeant called Nicholas Brody.

But in his latest project Damian Lewis transforms into Sydney Clark, a delivery driver, who shares similar qualities to British spy James Bond.

Helping Jaguar unveil their new F-Type sports car, Lewis, 42, offered his acting skills to a short feature film called Desire which is set to give 007 a run for his money.

In the trailer for the 12 minute mini-movie, which was shot in South America, Damian cuts a dapper figure as he cracks on with his mission to deliver the candy red vehicle.

Despite being only one minute and 21 seconds long, the teaser proves to be explosive as Clark (Lewis) finds himself in various testing situations.

The short sequence begins with the words: ‘His job was simple, deliver a car, but in the desert, nothing is simple.’

Desire tells the story of delivery driver Clark (Lewis) who is taking the car to a wealthy client but runs into trouble after a chance encounter with a mysterious young woman in the middle of the desert.

Speaking about his chance to work with the luxury British car-maker Jaguar in the mini-movie, Damian admitted he was instantly ‘intrigued’.

Lewis said: ‘When Jaguar approached me about the F-TYPE Desire film I was really intrigued. I then got to read the script and decided it was definitely a project I wanted to be a part of.

‘Working with the director Adam Smith from Ridley Scott Associates, it promises to be an adventure.’

He added: ‘Jaguar cars have played some iconic roles in film for many years and I’m looking forward to being the first to drive the F-TYPE in film.’

Homeland Star Damian Lewis Joins Tufnell Park Campaign Demanding Safe Cycling Routes

by Tom Marshall – Islington Gazette – March 3, 2013

TV star Damian Lewis turned out to support calls for a new cycle route in Tufnell Park this week.

Mr Lewis, the Golden Globe-winning star of acclaimed US series Homeland, who lives in Tufnell Park with actress wife Helen McCrory and their two young children, showed his backing by joining supporters outside the Tufnell Park Tavern, Tufnell Park Road, on Saturday.

Campaigners want to get more youngsters biking on a daily basis by creating a sign-posted route, linking six schools in the area.

They have proposed a three-mile circular route, which also takes in six parks and playgrounds, and plan to stage a family-friendly Tour de Tufnell Park ride next weekend to raise awareness.

Father-of-two David Lincoln, 45, of Huddleston Road, who is leading the Tufnell Park Cycles to School campaign, said: “The campaign was partly inspired by watching videos of Dutch children cycling to school on YouTube. They show what it could be like. The council’s own research has shown that 35 per cent of children would prefer to cycle to school, but less than three per cent actually do. We know the main reason is that our roads don’t look and feel safe. We are staging the Tour de Tufnell Park along the route to raise awareness, but also because there are upcoming by-elections in two Tufnell Park wards, and we’re trying to influence the local candidates.”
