What BGC Charity Day Means For The McCrory Award
by Ellie Iorizzo | Evening Standard | September 30, 2022
Helen McCrory’s legacy is maintained through the charity she helped to establish before her death which benefits massively from the 9/11 trading day, the charity’s founder has said. Film and stage star Damian Lewis, 51, returned to the BGC Partners brokerage firm in Canary Wharf on Thursday to support the Sir Hubert Von Herkomer Arts Foundation (HvH Arts) – for which his late wife McCrory was patron. Lewis, who was also supporting the charity Cure EB, told the PA news agency:
“I love the idea of trading, I would be terrible at it in real life. These guys are honestly on the edge all the time … fingers hovering over buttons ready to make the trade but they are all brilliant. This day is obviously special after what happened on 9/11 and it’s a brilliant initiative. I am glad to come back. If I am in town I always do this day, I really enjoy it and I do it for HVH Arts, which is a brilliant little charity that Debbi runs and Cure EB, two very different things we’re trying to help out and very happy to be here. Helen was patron and I have taken over as patron because I wanted to continue to help.”

Some of the world’s biggest stars from the entertainment and sporting industry have been photographed by legendary celebrity portrait photographer, Andy Gotts MBE, for an exhibition at Maddox Gallery in Westbourne Grove, London. The online auction will open at 9:00 am on September 30 and runs through October 9, 2022. Damian’s Lot number is #23. Presented in a floating black wood box frame (with grain), the large Fine Art Giclée Archival Print measures 168 x 117 cm (sheet size 152 x 102 cm). Soccer Aid team: England. Appearances: 5

Ringside: Boxing For The Mind, Body and Soul
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | September 16, 2022
Damian attended Head Guard’s “weigh-in and charity auction” on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at London’s Groucho Club in the Gennaro Room. Head Guard is a non-profit organization with a mission to empower women and children who have experienced trauma in the form of sexual assault, trafficking, domestic violence, war or life-altering abuse. The charity piloted the program in Iraq in 2019 at a refugee camp so that young women and their boxing sisters would be self-sufficient once they left. A small local charity in Iraq called The Lotus Flower then paid the women to coach as they recognized the huge benefits it had on the mental health of the women within the camp.
Although the auction is closed, you can view the catalogue here. The evening’s weigh-in was a precursor for the charity’s next mission, a boxing match fundraiser and fight night with Damon ‘The Showman’ Bryant (trained by Cathy ‘The Bitch’ Brown) to be held October 21, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the indoor arena and leisure complex York Hall in Bethnal Green to help more young women in Nepal, along with the Sustainable Foundation.

Time to Make Some Calls
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | August 31, 2022
UPDATE: Due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the 10-day mourning period in the UK, this event was rescheduled for Thursday, September 29, 2022.
HvH Arts Foundation announced today on Instagram that their Patron Damian Lewis and Ambassador Sadie Frost will be back on the trading floor this year to support their charity at BGC Charity Day 2022. And Damian will also raise funds for CureEB as Patron of that charity. He is scheduled to participate in the 18th annual BGC Charity Day on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Canary Wharf located at One Churchill Place in London, England.
Damian raises money for two local organizations – CureEB which supports those affected by epidermolysis bullosa, a severe genetic skin condition that leads to blistering and skin loss at the slightest friction. Children with the condition are often referred to as ‘Butterfly Children’ as their skin is said to be as fragile as a butterfly’s wings. And the HvH Arts Foundation, a foundation near to Helen McCrory’s heart that is dedicated to ensuring every child is given a chance to connect with and express their inner artist in a time when funding for the arts are squeezed out of the mainstream curriculum.

When Henry Visited Thomas
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | August 30, 2022
Well look what we have here – a mini Wolf Hall reunion perhaps? On August 3, 2022 Damian was spotted in the audience of the play Jerusalem starring Mark Rylance.
Jerusalem, a play by Jez Butterworth, returned to the Apollo in the West End in London from April 16 until August 6, 2022 and it seems Damian saw the production just in the nick of time. Surely Damian chatted up his old pal backstage. What could those two possibly be discussing? We can only hope Wolf Hall was a topic of conversation!

Nick Cave and Damian
Damian was spotted at the All Points East annual music festival on Sunday, August 28, 2022 in London’s Victoria Park, watching Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ gig. Cave’s Red Right Hand was popularized as the soundtrack to Peaky Blinders, which Helen McCrory played Aunt Polly. Backstage star-studded friends and family supported Cave, including Rami Malek, Tilda Swinton and Damian. No doubt Damian continues hitting the music scene as he prepares to release a solo album early next year.
