The HBAs of Cumberbatch Island
by Michael Baumann | The Ringer | March 24, 2022
This weekend marks the return of ‘Bridgerton,’ a series that celebrates society journalism—and lusting after Brits. To celebrate, here’s an exploration of the different types of attractive male British actors—from the prototypes to the ones currently ruling the screen and a select group of men who currently dominate Hollywood: Hot British Actors™ (HBAs).
The HBA is hardly a new phenomenon; it’s been part of the American cultural furniture since your grandparents were down bad (or whatever the postwar equivalent is) for Sean Connery and Richard Burton. But now these actors are everywhere—wielding affected American accents like a plumber wields a wrench. They’re hiding in plain sight, not just in our romantic dramas and superhero movies, but our network sitcoms and prime-time soaps as well. Paul Revere is rummaging through his saddlebags right now, trying to figure out how many lanterns to light for “by screen.”

England is His Homeland
by Mary Sollosi | Entertainment Weekly | August 19, 2018
There have been a number of British actors that have done a phenomenal job convincing movie and television audiences that they are American with their spot-on accents. Of course we here at damian-lewis.com know Damian is British, but many new fans are still shocked to learn he is a native from across the pond. Perhaps it’s because Damian has been known to stay in his American persona both on and off the set, even while grocery shopping or guest appearing on a talk show, to some degree. Nevertheless, Damian has made Entertainment Weekly’s top 20 actors you forgot were British.
#11 – Damian Lewis
Don’t be fooled by his flawless American accent; the Billions star’s real Homeland is England.
We can now confirm Damian will appear in GQ’s “Theatrical Portfolio” in the March 2018 issue, on stands this Thursday! And here is the sample magazine cover. Other performers appearing are James Norton, Sienna Miller, Bryan Cranston and Andrew Garfield.
Damian’s theatrical performance as Martin Gray, an architect in love with a goat in The Goat Play, or Who is Sylvia? was an Edward Albee revival that ran from March through June, 2017 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket in London’s West End. Will Damian be nominated for an Olivier Award for The Goat Play?
We will soon find out when the official nominations are announced March 6th. The 2018 Laurence Olivier Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. For more information, please visit the Official London Theatre website.
