11 Actors You May Have Forgotten Were in Band of Brothers – Dec 9, 2013

Embarrassment of Riches

by Kate Erbland | Mental Floss | December 9, 2013

HBO has an archive of award-winning material, but perhaps the crown jewel in the cable channel’s mini-series program is Band of Brothers, a ten-episode special presentation that brought World War II to startling on-screen life in 2001.

Chronicling the real-life experiences of the Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne, Brothers dove deep inside some of the most essential parts of the war, from D-Day to Market Garden to the taking of Hitler’s private holiday residence. The remarkable stories told within it were only bolstered by a massive cast of new and emerging talent. Much of Band of Brothers was filmed in the UK, resulting in the casting of a bevy of up-and-coming British actors as some of America’s finest soldiers (alongside plenty of American talent, too), and also guaranteeing that you’ve probably forgotten many of the men who made the series so great.

Sam Mendes and Damian Lewis Praise Inspirational Music Teachers – Nov 12, 2013

Music To My Ears

by Staff | ClassicFM | November 12, 2013

Skyfall director Sam Mendes and Homeland star Damian Lewis surprised the Royal Albert Hall this evening with an appearance at the Music For Youth Schools Prom 2013. After watching the performances on stage at the Royal Albert Hall, they presented the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year Award 2013 to Claire Hennie, Private Music Teacher Of The Year and Matthew Tiffany, Peripatetic Music Teacher Of The Year.

“It is a really big thrill to give this away to one of the inspirational teachers,” Lewis said. “When I was roughly your age, 11 or 12, I sang in a chamber choir and had an inspirational teacher, Mr Woodgate, who rearranged Beatles tunes. And so, as an 11 year old I was able to sing Eleanor Rigby and I Love Her and other Beatles tunes in four-part harmony, and it’s a memory I treasure to this day.”

The Appeal of Damian Lewis – Sept 4, 2013

Why We All Love Damian Lewis

by Rebecca Cope | Harper’s Bazaar | September 4, 2013

British actor Damian Lewis is no ordinary Hollywood hunk. In fact, at first glance, he’s far from it – where is the perma-tan, the blonde hair, the muscles? Lewis is a thoroughly British pin-up. With his strawberry blonde hair, pale skin and plummy accent, not to mention his impeccably posh pedigree, he’s part of a new group of power-Brits taking over the world. Not convinced? Let us analyse his appeal for you…

The Brody effect

As with all great performances, it’s extremely difficult to separate Damian Lewis the actor from Nick Brody the Homeland character. Damaged, brave, vulnerable, sexy and totally unpredictable, Brody is the ultimate reformed bad boy, and we want to rescue him. So. Much.

We all love redheads in 2013

Redhead, ginger, strawberry blonde – however you want to label it, russet hued locks are enjoying a serious vogue in the last few years. From Florence Welch to Lily ColePrince Harry to Jessica Chastain, anyone worth their salt knows that carrot-tops are cool – and woe betide anyone who denies it.

He’s a family man

Despite the fact that his fame has reached dizzying new heights since Homeland, Lewis is a family man at heart, more happy in the company of his wife Helen McCrory and their two two children, Manon and Gulliver.

He’s “well-brought-up”

Lewis is infamous for being polite, gentlemanly and an all-round nice guy, and that’s largely attributed to his background and education. Born in St John’s Wood, he’s related to two Lords (at least) went to Eton and was an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company. We rest our case.

He’s funny

As his previous stints as a guest host on Have I Got News For You in 2006, 2009, 2020 and 2012 have proven, Lewis is witty and intelligent, which is exactly how we like our Hollywood stars. Here he is being funny on the Jonathan Ross show.

All Revved Up: Damian Lewis Stylishly Delivers in Jaguar’s Short Film Desire

by Michael O’Connell | Hollywood Reporter | April 24, 2013

The Emmy winner tells THR about his Sundance London collaboration with the automaker and his decision to put a humorous spin on the Bond-esque hero: “There’s not a lot of comedy in Homeland.”

The kind of TV affection that Damian Lewis has earned since Homeland premiered tends to come with a high-profile endorsement deal — preferably for an automaker.

Many of the of Emmy and Golden Globe winner’s contemporaries are partnered with some of the big ones. Dexter star Michael C. Hall narrates Dodge ads, Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm is the voice of Mercedes-Benz and co-star John Slattery can frequently be seen behind the wheel of a Lincoln.

But Lewis strays from the pack in his elaborate production for Jaguar. He doesn’t provide a voice over, and you won’t see 30 second spots airing during ad breaks for SportsCenter. Lewis’ Jaguar commercial is a 12-minute movie produced by Ridley Scott’s advertising company.

Desire, being screened as a part Sundance London’s 2013 programming, premieres in its official venue, YouTube, on Wednesday.

“It sort of fell into my lap,” the London-born actor tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve never done anything for the online market before, and I just thought it was cool to work with Ridley Scott and [director] Adam Smith. I thought the script had a kind of nod to the Americana that you find in the Coen brothers’ movies.”
