Damian Lewis and Alison Mosshart Attend Vogue World: London

Vogue Brings Fashion Fantasia to the West End

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | September 14, 2023

Damian and Alison walked the red carpet in style as they attended the star-studded Vogue World: London show at Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on Thursday, September 14, 2023. The theme and dress code for the evening was Opening Night for the 1,500 guests. Damian performed on stage in a punchy tartan frock coat and worked the crowd playing a hammy theater usher as part of the original comedy sketch Safety Curtain alongside James McAvoy, James Corden, Sienna Miller and others. The evening concluded with a live performance by the fabulous and talented Annie Lennox singing ‘Sweet Dreams.’ View more photos from the event in our Gallery.

Vogue brought its very own fashion fantasia to the West End as audience members and streaming viewers watched the magazine dramatically bring to life the pages of Vogue. Masterminded by BAFTA- and Olivier-winning director Stephen Daldry, show director Emily Burns, and creative producer Fran Miller, alongside the Vogue team, the evening ran the gamut of the performing arts—opera and ballet and theater, oh my—with a galaxy of fashionable stars ranging from Kate Moss, Jared Leto, Brian Cox and Cindy Crawford to Sophie Okonedo, Ian McKellen, Linda Evangelista and Stormzy. Other guests included Baz Luhrmann, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Maisie Williams.

More photos of Damian and Alison carrying BG shopping bags on the subway confirm they did a little high-end designer shopping, probably while Billions filming is on hold due to WGA strike. Nothing wrong with some retail therapy 😉 See more photos in our Gallery here.

Damian Lewis Gets Some Quality Threads

Pretty in Pink

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 5, 2022

Look who stopped by Whitley London for some new rock-n-roll threads! Damian looks oh so fashionable in what appears to be a made-to-order bespoke tailored suit. He’s stylin’ and profilin’ for what we hope will be his next music gig, although his new and upcoming limited series A Spy Among Friends will get its world premiere on Friday, October 7, 2022 at BFI London Film Festival. Perhaps we’ll see this suit on that red carpet. Even more heartwarming is that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and people wear pink ribbons to honor survivors, remember those lost to the disease and to support the progress we are making together to defeat breast cancer. And one more thing…

Renaissance Men’s Fashion Today

by Maria H. Loh | Art News | June 29, 2022

Certain men’s fashions have always been controversial. In 2014, Mark Rylance, a star of the BBC’s popular sixteenth-century TV drama Wolf Hall, told reporters that he thought “the codpieces are too small.” The actor, who played chief minister Thomas Cromwell, protagonist of the Hilary Mantel best seller on which the series was based, speculated that the sartorial edit was perhaps a directive from the show’s American producers, who feared that historically accurate codpieces might shock their transatlantic viewers. Indeed, if you look at any number of Renaissance portraits of Henry VIII, you might be immediately taken aback by the elaborate mound of shimmering white silk that bursts forth and rises up conspicuously between the king’s legs. Damian Lewis, who had the monarch’s role in the show, explained to the Los Angeles Times that these unusual attachments were,

“… a symbol of your virility, your derring-do, your sense of adventure. They were encouraged, it was a fashion, and Henry liked them.”

11 TV Shows to Binge for Design Inspiration – May 1, 2020

The Opulence of Billions

by  | Architectural Digest | April 30, 2020

Axe’s apartment is filmed at a 7,500 square foot penthouse apartment in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan.

There’s never a wrong time to turn to quality television as home design inspiration. But now that we’re all self-isolating and social distancing within our walls because of the COVID-19 pandemic, plunging through your streaming queue and gazing at a show’s visual style—one that seamlessly complements its story and characters—is a flat-out essential activity. Beyond the benefit of providing some good old-fashioned escapism, the right series with the right set-design eye candy can spark your own creativity and innovation. And in this current golden age of television, a plethora of swoon-worthy options are just a sanitized finger-click away. Check out these all-time greats, whose aesthetics span from the polished world of 1950s New York City to contemporary white-trim California cool. Welcome home.

Billions
That’s billions with a B. And that means brash hedge-fund shark Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) must connive and thrive in a two-story Tribeca penthouse befitting an actual Wall Street mogul. Wood gleams and metals shine from the light beaming from 18-foot floor-to-ceiling windows. The showstopper is an Italian blown-glass chandelier, which offers a soft counterpoint to the sharp angles and stark-white furniture. For the sprawling Connecticut estate in the show, production designer Mike Shaw and set decorator Christina Tonkin designed the spacious kitchen and living room to look functional for the Axelrod family. The master bedroom, with sheen-coated fabrics draped over an oversize, elevated bed, is a reflection of the main character’s troubled marriage. (Showtime on Hulu)

Showtime and Concepts Launch Streetwear and Sneakers Capsule – April 28, 2020

Billions Apparel Collaboration

by Obi Anyanwu | WWD | April 28, 2020

The Boston-based boutique and Showtime Networks are launching on May 1 a capsule collection for the drama series “Billions,” to coincide with the May 3 premiere of the show’s fifth season.

The apparel capsule, which is the first collaboration between the two, is comprised of black and gray T-shirts and hoodies featuring scenes from past episodes, and phrases “anyone can be bought” and “what drives you doesn’t understand enough” on the back. The collection will be available exclusively on the Concepts web site for $35 to $100 and will continue through the summer with a footwear release.

The boutique’s management has been a fan of the show since its beginning, which fueled the capsule, but the team drew inspiration from the show, nostalgia, luxury and New York City for the collection’s design. “Honestly, we would have been involved since the beginning if we could, but the timing couldn’t be better than now,” said Deon Point, creative director of Concepts.

How Billions Costume Designer Picks the Show’s Trademark Outerwear – April 1, 2019

No Billions Quant Is Ever Fully Dressed Without an Axe Cap Fleece Vest

by Hunter Harris | Vulture | April 1, 2019

The only thing Billions takes more seriously than making and closing deals is how flashily — and intentionally — the Axe Capital quants layer for their sleek windowed office. A fleece vest is the de facto uniform for a certain type of Wall Street worker, and it’s their most important wealth signifier. To hear Billions costume designer Eric Daman tell it: “The Scots have different plaids that their families are associated with. The Irish have fisherman sweaters worn according to their clans. The finance guys have their polar fleece vests with their company logo on it. You would think that these billionaires would be like, I’m not wearing this shitty fleece vest. But they have a pride in it.”

It cannot be overstated that I never, at any point, have a clue what is technically going on in the Billions-verse. Money! Trades! The Southern District of New York! But I do know a lot about gossiping and have spent enough time on New York City-area dating apps to know this to be true: There are few things more important to someone who works on Wall Street (ditto Silicon Valley) than the shapeless, muted-color fleece vests these people wear, the ones with their firm’s logo stitched on one side of the chest, the ones that look deeply and importantly unattractive. So: Here’s absolutely everything you (probably did not, frankly) need to know about how the Billions costume designer picks out all of the show’s trademark outerwear for Axe Capital’s traders.

‘Billions,’ ‘Succession’ and the Making of Wealth Porn – March 14, 2019

The Ultrawealthy. The 1 Percent of the 1 Percent

by Alexis Soloski | New York Times | March 14, 2019

Two years ago, Aidan Sleeper needed to find an apartment.

Sleeper, the locations manager for “Billions,” returning Sunday for its fourth season on Showtime, scouted more than 100 places that list for tens of millions of dollars, but he couldn’t find the right one. “It was impossible,” he said.

The apartment wasn’t for his own use — he and his wife rent in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. No, he had to lock down a Manhattan residence for Bobby Axelrod, the “Billions” hedge fund phenom played by Damian Lewis. The space couldn’t be comfortable or cozy. It needed to intimidate, astound, overwhelm, gut punch your breath away.

“We always joke, ‘billionaire, not millionaire,’” Sleeper said on a January morning at the “Billions” production office in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, as he scrolled through a desktop folder of photos. He clicked for a moment on a $65 million triplex that hadn’t impressed him when he toured it: “You walk in there and it’s like, really?” He shrugged and scrolled on.
