Julianna Margulies and Corey Stoll Join Billions for Season 5 – Nov 5, 2019

Introducing the Characters Michael Prince and Catherine Brant

by Rick Porter | Hollywood Reporter | November 5, 2019

The ‘Good Wife’ and ‘House of Cards’ stars will play key recurring parts in the Showtime drama.
Billions is adding some more star power to its fifth season.

Julianna Margulies and Corey Stoll will each appear in recurring roles on the Showtime drama, which is set to return to the premium cabler in 2020.

Stoll (House of Cards, The Strain) will have a season-long arc as a character named Michael Prince, a business titan with roots in small-town Indiana. Margulies (The Good Wife, ER) will recur as Catherine Brant, an Ivy League sociology professor and best-selling author.

Season four of Billions found former enemies Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) and Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) forming a tenuous but effective alliance — along with Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), the chief counselor to both men — to take out their common rivals, including Grigor Andolov (John Malkovich), Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon) Bryan Connerty (Toby Leonard Moore) and Jock Jeffcoat (Clancy Brown). The show averaged 4.5 million viewers across all platforms last season.

Dream Horse Gets Worldwide Release – Oct 31, 2019

Sony Makes Multi-Territory Bet on Dream Horse

by Leo Barraclough | Variety | October 31, 2019

“Dream Horse,” starring Toni Collette and Damian Lewis, has been sold around the world by Cornerstone Films, including a multi-territory deal with Sony. The story of a winning racehorse from BAFTA-winning director Euros Lyn also stars Owen Teale, Joanna Page and Karl Johnson.

Cornerstone has closed deals with Welt Kino (Germany), Impuls (Switzerland), Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures Inc. (Japan) and Terry Steiner (Airlines). As previously announced, Bleecker Street and Topic Studios have jointly acquired the U.S. rights, and Warner Bros. is distributing in the U.K. The Sony deal – inked with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions – includes rest of world, excluding Canada, Italy and France.

In the film, Jan Vokes (Collette), a cleaner and bartender, recruits her initially reluctant husband, Brian (Teale), and local accountant Howard Davies (Lewis) to help her bring together a syndicate of local people to breed a foal, which they name Dream Alliance. On the racetrack, he proves himself to be more than a match for the multi-million-pound racehorses he comes up against. But more than this, Dream begins to alter the lives of everyone in the syndicate, not least Jan’s.

“Dream Horse” is described by Cornerstone as “a classic story of triumph against adversity, and a tale of how a woman strives to make her dream a reality in a place where hope is thin on the ground.”

Apple Launches In-House Studio, Sets Band of Brothers Follow-Up Series – Oct 11, 2019

Masters of the Air

by Will Thorne | Variety | October 11, 2019

Apple is set to produce its first in-house series.

The show in question is Masters of the Air, a follow-up to the Band of Brothers and The Pacific series executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks. The legendary duo are on board once again, which comes as no surprise given that Spielberg was a prominent figure at the Apple TV Plus launch event in March. Masters of the Air will also be a limited drama and represents the first series greenlit with Apple serving as the studio. The tech giant has placed worldwide video heads Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht in charge of overseeing its new studio.

Based on the book by Donald L. Miller, Masters of the Air is said to follow the true, deeply personal story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. The series is being written by Band of Brothers alumnus John Orloff, who is also a co-executive producer. The critically acclaimed Band of Brothers miniseries aired on HBO back in 2001, and featured Homeland and Billions star Damian Lewis in one of the lead roles. The show won a handful of Emmys and a Golden Globe, while its successor The Pacific was also an awards season success.

Spielberg is exec producing via his Amblin Television banner, alongside Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone. Graham Yost, also an alumnus from Band of Brothers, will co-executive produce alongside Amblin TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey and Steven Shareshian of Playtone.

Masters of the Air will stream exclusively on Apple TV Plus and represents the second project for Apple to hail from Spielberg’s Amblin Television…
