Billions Season 5 Returns in 2021 and Renews for Season 6

by Elaine Low | Variety | October 1, 2020

Billions has been renewed for a sixth season at Showtime — and fans will be pleased to know that five new episodes of Season 5 will air in 2021, after the ongoing coronavirus pandemic put a wrench in the premium cabler’s scheduling for the year.

David Costabile, who plays Wags on the show, recently shared with TV Fanatic that season 5 filming would commence around March, 2021 and they will film season 6 back-to-back,

“We will go back and finish the end of the last few episodes of season five, and then we will continue working straight through and shoot season six. So next year, it will be an onslaught of Billions because we will just work from when we start until when we finish season six. They’ve been writing since July, I think. That’s exciting. The writer’s room has been up and swinging. My guess is that by the time we start, everything will be written. We’re probably not starting until around March shooting again, and the [CoVid-19] protocols, my guess, will still be in effect then.”

Damian Lewis Poised To Star In Cold War Limited Series – July 7, 2020

A Spy Among Friends

by Jake Kanter, Peter White, Nellie Andrea | Deadline | July 7, 2020

EXCLUSIVE: Billions’ Damian Lewis is in negotiations to headline and executive produce a limited series adaptation of bestselling Cold War espionage thriller A Spy Among Friends for Spectrum Originals and UK streamer BritBox.

The six-episode A Spy Among Friends, based on Ben Macintyre’s book, comes from former Homeland executive producer Alexander Cary, Sony Pictures Television and ITV Studios. While filming has been delayed due to COVID-19, production is expected to recommence shortly, with a tentative release planned for the fall of 2021.

A Spy Among Friends follows the defection of notorious British intelligence officer and KGB double agent, Kim Philby (TBD), through the lens of his complex relationship with MI6 colleague and close friend, Nicholas Elliott (Lewis). The show examines espionage through their friendship, the fallout of which affects East-West relations to this day.

Philby was a British spy who notoriously defected to the Soviet Union in the 1950s, betraying secrets to the Russians in the early years of the Cold War. He and Elliott entered the spy game together, but as they rose through the MI6 ranks, Philby turned double agent.

The double-hander was described by the New York Times as having the tropes of an Ian Fleming or John le Carré novel. Indeed, the book itself contains an afterword from spy story master and The Night Manager author le Carré.

Billions Season 5 Split In Two – April 1, 2020

CoVid-19 Temporarily Suspends Filming

by Nellie Andreeva | Deadline | April 1, 2020

This is not an April Fool’s joke. Deadline reports Billions season five will split into two.

Showtime has made more adjustments to its schedule as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which suspended all Hollywood production.

Black Monday and Billions, which were in production on their current/upcoming seasons when the shutdown occurred, will air partial seasons, with the rest of the episodes running at a later date after all production has been completed.

For both the unexpected spring finales will come at a natural point in the story arcs of their seasons. Showtime already two weeks ago moved in to stagger the remaining finished original episodes of Black Monday by shifting the comedy’s air pattern from two back-to-back new episodes premiering a week to one, beginning March 22, continuing through Sunday, April 12. The April 12 Episode 6 of Black Monday will be the last of the current batch.

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | February 12, 2020

NEW SERIES HOSTED BY THE EMMY® AND GOLDEN GLOBE® WINNING ACTOR TO PREMIERE SUNDAY, MARCH 22 AT 8PM ET/PT

Where to watch streaming: Hulu Live, iTunes, Amazon Prime, fuboTV (free 7-day trial), YouTube TV w/Smithsonian Channel, and Vudu.

NEW YORK – February 12, 2020 – Smithsonian Channel is set to investigate some of the most shocking and explosive cases of espionage over the last 50 years. SPY WARS WITH DAMIAN LEWIS features the incredible true stories of spy wars fought in the shadows, from the turbulent years of the Cold War to the Iran Hostage Crisis and the discovery of a complex web of sleeper agents living in the U.S. – a major inspiration for the plot of The Americans. Each episode of this new eight-part series sees host Damian Lewis revealing these remarkable tales of the secretive world of government intelligence, surveillance and international conspiracy plots with interviews from the experts and eyewitnesses that lived through them. SPY WARS WITH DAMIAN LEWIS premieres Sunday, March 22 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel.

The series premiere episode, THE MAN WHO SAVED THE WORLD, recounts the story of Oleg Gordievsky – a KGB agent who may have singlehandedly averted World War III. Posted to the Soviet embassy in London by the KGB, Gordievsky would become disenfranchised by the Soviet agenda and, in a shocking move, flipped to become a double agent for British intelligence MI6. What was to follow was a years-long effort by Gordievsky to pass Soviet intelligence to the British, all but preventing a nuclear Armageddon between the Soviet Union and the West.
