Soccer Aid Portraits for Auction
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | September 24, 2022
Some of the world’s biggest stars from the entertainment and sporting industry have been photographed by legendary celebrity portrait photographer, Andy Gotts MBE, for an exhibition at Maddox Gallery in Westbourne Grove, London. The online auction will open at 9:00 am on September 30 and runs through October 9, 2022. Damian’s Lot number is #23. Presented in a floating black wood box frame (with grain), the large Fine Art Giclée Archival Print measures 168 x 117 cm (sheet size 152 x 102 cm). Soccer Aid team: England. Appearances: 5
The stunning portraits were taken behind-the-scenes at Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2021 and 2022, and all proceeds from the sales of the signed prints will support UNICEF’s work helping children around the world to get the best start in life. By tackling the issues that turn childhoods upside down – from war and disaster to hunger and disease – UNICEF helps children to learn, rebuild their lives and gain access to healthcare so they can get back to just being kids.
Look what we have here! Damian and Gully were spotted in the new Riverside Stands at Craven Cottage for the Fulham vs. Liverpool match on the second day of Premier League. Liverpool’s opening line-up included: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Firmino and Diaz. Let’s go LFC! You Never Walk Alone. Final score? 2-2 draw.

Written By GingersnapComments Off on Legendary Footballer John Barnes Coaches a Young Damian Lewis
From the Archives
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | June 24, 2022
We have long suspected and can now definitively share that the photo above, which has been floating around the internet since 2015, is indeed a young Damian Lewis. A little backstory for you – Damian recently shared on The Anfield Wrap podcast with Andrew Heaton that he and some of his pals were coached by legendary footballer John Barnes during his Watford days. Since Barnes played for Watford from 1981–1987, that would make Damian somewhere between the ages of 10-16 during that timeframe.
To narrow down Damian’s age even more, video of The John Barnes Story documentary (26:20 in), which originally aired in 2015 on ITV 4 as part of the Sports Life Stories series, states Barnes found time to coach on the green playing fields of Eton College during his career and we know Damian attended Eton for five years, between ages 13-18. The documentary also states Barnes provided coaching sessions at Eton for “the under 14’s.” My guess, Damian is probably between the ages of 13-14 in this photo. We’d like to thank football fan Simon Corney for his initial clue shared on Twitter back in April, 2015. And finally, we’d like to thank Andrew Heaton who confirmed with the Fan Fun Team that the photo is in fact, Damian. Mystery solved 🙂 And if you need more confirmation, John Barnes confirmed himself:
when i played for watford, i used to coach at eton school every now and then and YES, that is a young damian lewis!!!🤣

Desert Island Goals
by Andrew Heaton | The Anfield Wrap | June 23, 2022
Damian Lewis recently participated in The Anfield Wrap podcast with Andrew Heaton to discuss the three goals that decorated his time supporting Liverpool and mean the most to him, as well as chatting about his career to date. To listen to the entire one hour podcast, download The Anfield Wrap app from iTunes, walk through the sign-up in the app, get your verification code via email, then choose “50 tokens” instead of “subscribe” to listen. Unsure what 50 tokens costs or how that is tallied, but “tokens” is the way to hear just the episode instead of purchasing $10.99/month subscription to the entire podcast series.
Damian discusses the three pubs in New York one could frequent to watch “footie” while he was working in the States, as well as being served “a good English breakfast and Guinness.” They discussed Band of Brothers with its unreal cast and the fact that the television series is still talked about 20+ years later, with Damian saying, “It was a beautifully made bit of TV.” Moderator Andrew Heaton divulged his absolute favorite Damian Lewis role was Billions and then quipped, “…obviously it’s not as good now, you’re not there anymore so it doesn’t matter.” To which Damian replied, “You know, I mean, there’s one more season, that’s all I’m saying.” Heaton then states, “Hey, listen, I’m not saying nothing.” And then Damian repeats the statement again “All I’m saying is there’s one more season.” WHAAATTTT???!!!! Then Damian shared that Paul Giamatti is adorable, funny, smart, incredibly talented, a joy to work with and a total professional. When describing Axe, Damian claims that character is a “crim” (criminal) and total shit. LOL He goes on to say that Axe is Billy The Kid and Chuck (Paul Giamatti) is Wyatt Earp. Here is a clip but if you want to hear the real juicy stuff, you’ll have to listen to the full pod:

Mutual Heroes
by Shane Watson | The Telegraph | June 16, 2022
Men have friendships that women can’t help but envy – and it’s never clearer than when they’re famous.
When Damian Lewis locked eyes with David Beckham on the football pitch at Soccer Aid, it was an electric moment. David lit up like a small boy meeting his dad at the arrivals gate and Damian smiled like he’d missed him and only just realised how much. This is what the Mutual Hero friendship looks like.
David looks up to Damian and Damian looks up to David. Because Damian is an Etonian with sporty aspirations, he will be in awe of David, and because David admires a classy bloke, and Band of Brothers is almost certainly top of his watch-once-a-year list, he will feel much the same. But with the Mutual Hero friendship it’s also a matter of chemistry. Mixed in with the respect and the joy (“Look at us – we’ve still got it!”) there’s a whiff of a man crush going on. They both think each other are pretty fine specimens – all the more so because they’re from different tribes.
Women will have looked at the pictures of these two walking into each other’s arms and been reminded that male mates – especially in midlife – are surprisingly different from female ones. We may have friends who will instantly rally in a crisis, friends who know us better than our mothers and friends with whom we share every secret; but there are male friendships we can’t help but envy for their mysterious unshakeable bonds and inexplicable loyalties. Here are some of the four types of friendship that midlife men have:

United By Play
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | June 12, 2022
If you thought the World Cup was going to be the biggest sporting event of the year, think again because the world’s biggest celebrity football match Soccer Aid is back! The annual star-studded charity football match returned today, Sunday, June 12, 2022, playing at West Ham’s London Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, but not before training sessions at Champneys Tring in Wigginton, North Yorkshire days prior.
There were footballing greats and celebrities involved in this year’s game, and off-pitch the show was presented by UNICEF UK Ambassador Dermot O’Leary, joined by Maya Jama and Lionesses legend Alex Scott returned as pitch-side reporter. Kick-off began at 7:30 p.m. BST and coverage of the event aired on ITV television, with streaming available via ITV website and ITV Hub.
There was even a half-time musical performance from Soccer Aid founder Robbie Williams, who performed his famous hit ‘Angels’ and an appearance from UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham.
During arrivals at London Stadium Damian had a short interview and predicted the match result as 4-1 in England’s favor. While on the pitch he further elaborated and claimed England would indeed win it. He was asked if it was a coincidence that England lost without him in the last three years and he said it was one of the biggest coincidences. 😉 View video of that portion here. At the half-time mark the match was tied 1-1 as Damian donned jersey number 66 and played in the second half. He missed a sitter, as he looked certain to score, but dragged the shot wide. Damian looked stunned and gutted! And we were gutted for him. At 84 minutes in, Damian spotted Tom Grennan’s dart into the area but he was offside. Going into tonight’s match the two teams were tied with five wins each after 10 matches, yet this match ended in a 2-2 draw at full-time, going into penalties. World XI scored four penalties and England scored one. The winning Team was World XI, with a final score of 6-3. Sorry Damian! See Damian’s score prediction here.

Helen’s Sweet Soccer Aid Gesture
by Rebecca Davison | Mail Online | June 9, 2022
Actor Damian Lewis paid a moving tribute to his late wife Helen McCrory on Good Morning Britain on Thursday saying, “She’s with us.”
The star, who’s taking part in Sunday’s Soccer Aid, revealed how Helen was always his biggest supporter – and GMB hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shepherd shared their memories of the Peaky Blinders actor who passed away from cancer in April 2021 aged 52. Ben began by saying:
“The first time I met you and your lovely wife Helen away from work was at Soccer Aid many years ago in Manchester and you were there with the family and the kids. She was always such a vociferous supporter of you and everything you did. Kate and I were very honoured to be at her memorial service just a few weeks ago. I’d imagine you’ve been very moved by the outpouring of love and support that has been shown towards her since she sadly passed away.”
Damian replied, “Well, She was a fabulous human being and people from all walks of life have been in touch to say what an impact she had on their lives.”
