Damian Lewis: The King of the Box Set – February, 2017

How Homeland Star Mr. Damian Lewis Struck Gold for a Second Time with Billions

He’s a truly transatlantic citizen, is Mr. Damian Lewis. A nationality-fluid, dual persona – a true Brit for half the year and an Uncle Sam adoptee the rest of it. He may have been born in north London, educated at Eton College and served his time at the Royal Shakespeare Company, but when filming scenes as Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody in Homeland or, more recently, as hedge fund hustler Bobby Axelrod in the Showtime series Billionsthe Style Council member embeds himself culturally and linguistically in North American life – goes to ball games, wears “sweats” and “sneakers” and calls women (ironically) “broads”.

The accent he adopts for the character he’s playing isn’t dropped when the filming stops. He keeps it going when talking to the crew and catering and stays in full American drawl for interviews, taxi rides, grocery shops and restaurant orders. Really good actors can do this kind of thing. Mr. Lewis says it helps him focus on the roles in hand and puts everyone at ease on set. Jumping in and out of accents, he says, would feel “awkward”. But not everyone is impressed. “I once did a US TV interview in my American accent and somehow it was seen by quite a few of my friends back in England. There were several irate text messages. ‘You’re British. Stop talking like an American!’ It has become second nature to me now and I am happy to do it,” he shrugs. “That said, if I am with Brits, I come out of it pretty quickly.”

My Night with Damian Lewis – Dec 2, 2016

My Night with Damian Lewis

by Liz Smith – New York Social Diary – December 2, 2017

I went to a mah-velous party!” as Noel Coward once opined. And following in Noel’s footprints, so did I, your friend Liz. This in the fabled La Grenouille restaurant on East 52nd Street off 5th Ave. This most recent party was hosted by a mysterious and charming man who prefers to be nameless. He had seated me at the very end of a table of VIP’s, with no one on my left. This gave me a golden opportunity to pay full attention to the really big movie-TV-stage actor on my right. He just happened to be one of the hottest men of the moment — Damian Lewis.

Across from the two of us was the die-hard pro-Hillary super-fan, the ebullient Liz RobbinsShe saw me hand Mr. Lewis my card, as I was trying to impress him with my modesty! (I said to Damian, “This is who I used to be when I was a big deal back in the Dark Ages, before you were born.”) This enthusiastic good-hearted actor began to laugh and said, “I know exactly who you are.”

I answered brightly, “So you have nothing to fear.”  (We have never really met.  I’ve seen Damian, always looking sharp and sexy, at a number of events, screenings, mostly.  But I am actually rather shy, believe it or not.)

The entire dinner party was already stunned at  my “VIP” seat and many were getting ready to push me aside and mob Damian, or tell him that they, or their children/grandchildren adored him. But the ubiquitous Liz Robbins, naturally, began to compete with me for Damian’s attention. She told us all about herself, her hopes and dreams for a Clinton victory, despite all odds.

Damian and I listened contentedly to this explanation of Robbins’ rave for Hillary Clinton. Then she paused. Damian spoke up. “So, you are actually a lobbyist with deep ties to Washington!” This threw our end of the table into happy convulsions, because by now others were listening. The two Liz’s had scored big.

Damian Lewis turned out to be super smart, super nice, and proceeded to tell us about his two children in London and to laud his wonderful wife, the actress Helen McCrory. (Helen came to visit us and knelt down to chat during dessert.) When I told her how her husband had raved about her, she just laughed, saying, “He is SO lucky!”

Summer Nights in New York – Oct 27, 2016

Friends Anna Wintour and Dominic West

by Dana Rose Falcone | US Weekly | October 27, 2016

Drinking in style! Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour loved hosting weekends at her beach house in Mastic, New York, this summer with actor pals Damian Lewis and Dominic West, a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly.

“They loved drinking and talking about how they miss England,” the insider says of the British trio. “They’d go through a ton of alcohol and laugh all night.”

Guests of the Hillary Clinton supporter, 66, left her Long Island home with an unique souvenir: a white cotton T-shirt reading “Make Mastic Great Again.”

“They’re the nicest white cotton T-shirts ever!” gushes the source.

While many A-listers typically flock farther east to the Hamptons during the warmer months, Wintour, dating businessman Shelby Bryan since 2004, has always been able to attract visitors to her waterfront abode.

Marking 40 Years of The Prince’s Trust

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | May 17, 2016

The Prince of Wales hosted a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace today, May 17, 2016 to mark 40 years of His Royal Highness’s charity The Prince’s Trust.

The Prince was joined by Prince’s Trust Ambassadors, including Sir Ben Kingsley, Sir Roger Moore, Fearne Cotton and Pixie Lott, alongside more than 5,000 of the charity’s supporters and beneficiaries. In the last 40 years, the charity has supported 825,000 young people.

During the garden party Dame Joan Collins and Gemma Arterton presented His Royal Highness with a portrait of himself created from hundreds of images of people whose lives have been touched by the work of The Prince’s Trust.

A digital book of memories containing messages recorded by young people and supporters of The Prince’s Trust was also presented to The Prince by Sir Ben Kingsley.

The Prince’s Trust was founded by The Prince of Wales in 1976, and supports 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed, struggling at school or at risk of exclusion.

Many of the young people helped by The Prince’s Trust are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness or mental health problems, or they have been in trouble with the law. The Trust’s programmes give vulnerable young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilize their lives, helping to develop self-esteem and skills for work.
