There were sightings of Damian and family vacationing in Italy with his brother Gareth Lewis earlier this month and now it seems Damian has made the trek over to Portugal, no doubt to meet up with his nephew Tom Yaxley in Madrid who is on his penultimate day of the Ride4Hugo biking campaign in support of Damian’s nephew and Tom’s brother Hugo, as well as Helen McCrory. More information about that here.
Damian stopped in to dine at the restaurant Borda do Cais located in Ferragudo, Portugal on Thursday, July 21, 2022. The restaurant specializes in fresh fish and shellfish, complete with a wine cellar. More information about the restaurant here.

Riding all the Way from London to Madrid for Hugo and Helen
by Lily Ford | Evening Standard | July 21, 2022
An Army officer has raised thousands of pounds for charity by cycling 2,100 kilometres from London to Madrid in memory of his “inspiring” brother and his aunt, actress Helen McCrory. Tom Yaxley, 32, is the brother of Hugo Yaxley and nephew of Damian, as well as McCrory, who died from cancer in April 2021 aged 52.
Mr. Yaxley has embarked on the cycle across Europe for Ride4Hugo, a series of fundraising events organised by friends and family which have earned more than £115,000 for four charities. Through tough gruelling climbs, injury, pain, heat, traffic and SHEEP! Nothing stopped him.

Polzeath Beach
by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | August 24, 2021
Damian spent some quality time with his family on Monday, August 23, 2021 for a mass family pilgrimage to Cone Zone in Polzeath, Cornwall for what would have been his late nephew Hugo’s 21st birthday. Looks like he enjoyed an ice cream on a hot summer day at Polzeath Beach before joining in on a game of rugby. Although it is a sad day, it gave the family a chance to reflect on the quality times together and the incredible life Hugo had.

Family Support: In Memory of Hugo Yaxley and Helen McCrory
by Staff | Ride4Hugo | June 15, 2021 *updated May 03, 2022
Ride4Hugo is in memory of Hugo Yaxley, Damian and Helen’s nephew, who tragically died in a car accident in November, 2020.
Hugo was a big advocate of facing up to mental health issues and changing the stigma attached to it. Ride4Hugo aims to raise funds and awareness for four great charities that were close to both his and Helen’s heart. His Aunt, Helen McCrory, passed away five months after Hugo’s accident.
Uncle Damian, as he was to Hugo, is Ride4Hugo’s patron. Best known for his performances on screen and stage, Damian has also contributed a huge amount of charity work. Most recently he and his late wife Helen McCrory helped raise over £1m for the FeedNHS campaign.
Damian recently reflected on Hugo, stating:
“The recurring theme talking to people about Hugo, is that, for one so young, he leaves an incredible legacy. He truly inspired people of his generation, through his own bravery, to be more confident and open about their mental health. This is an extraordinary thing to have achieved by the age of 20. He’s touched more people in his short life than most do in their longer ones. One great memory is of our family holiday in Mallorca when Hugo perfected and demonstrated (endlessly) the art of “bombing” in the swimming pool. Face down mostly. For ages afterwards, we called him Bomber Yaxley. He became many other fabulous things as he got older but that fearlessness never left him. And he used it to help others. Love you Hugo.”
