by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | May 15, 2022

More than 500 horses and 1,000 performers took part in a 90-minute programme for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration, marking the momentous occasion of 70 years on the throne. She officially hit the milestone back on February 6th, with celebrations happening throughout 2022. A variety of stage stars took part in the televised theatrical arena event, broadcast on ITV and ITV Hub from the grounds of Windsor Castle in Berkshire on May 15, 2022, as Britbox North America live streamed the event to viewers in the United States and Canada. The event took place from 8:00 p.m. to about 10:40 p.m. local UK time.

Helen Mirren took on the role of Elizabeth I (fitting, given she played Elizabeth II on stage) alongside Omid Djalili as The Herald, a character who introduces a cast of Queen’s Players, in the first of four acts charting the modern history of the nation. Damian Lewis opened the evening (video below), and Tom Cruise and Adjoa Andoh all served as hosts for the other acts. Musical guests included Gregory Porter, Maureen Lipman, Katherine Jenkins of Wales who sang Calon Lan and David Jason at various intervals throughout the night. Each act reflected on key moments in history, including Elizabeth I’s Tilbury Speech and James I and the Gunpowder Plot.

Damian and Helen Mirren Join Forces for The Queen’s 95th Birthday – March 10, 2021

Album Project: “The Music of Kings and the Queens”

by Sheldon Dane | London News Time | March 10, 2021

Helen Mirren joined forces with Damian Lewis to pay tribute to the Queen before her 95th birthday.

The 75-year-old actress, who won the Oscar on the big screen as a monarch in 2006, and her homeland star, 50, tell a series of stories about British kings and queens throughout history.

Each piece is set in music by contemporary composer Debbie Wiseman, who was asked to create a soundtrack to the Queen’s official birthday parade in June before it was put on hold due to ongoing coronavirus regulation.

The album, entitled “The Music of Kings and Queens,” tells the story of making England through 12 monarchs, beginning with William the Conqueror and ending with the current Queen.

Each royal family will feature the story of Helen and Lewis, accompanied by the music of the Grammy-nominated composer Wiseman, who embodies the individuality of the monarch.

The words were written by Simon Brooksward, an event producer and director who was involved in the planning of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebration.

Dame Helen  said: “I enjoyed the opportunity to work with Debbie on a musical journey into royal history.

“I am honored to be able to record the words with Damian and participate in celebrating Her Majesty’s 95th birthday.

“Debbie did a great job of composing and recording music.

“We may not remember most of the prime ministers, politicians, military forces, and even groundbreaking scientists, but in a good understanding of our kings and queens who shaped our country. Let’s say this is their story and their legacy. “

Invasion of the Brit Pack: Emma Watson, Michelle Dockery, Helen Mirren, Damian Lewis and Tom Hiddleston attend Barack Obama’s 102nd Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the White House

Best Of British: It was inevitable that Michelle Dockery would be in the company of fellow thespians Damian Lewis and Tom Hiddleston at the 102nd White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, D.C on Saturday night

They represent the best of British talent and have become leading figures in the world of acting.

So it was inevitable that Michelle Dockery would be in the company of fellow thespians Damian Lewis and Tom Hiddleston at the 102nd White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, D.C on Saturday night.

Cosying up for a group snap, the trio were truly at home among the legions of home-grown talent – which included Emma Watson and Helen Mirren – as they prepared for an evening mingling with journalists, fellow celebrities and the President of the United States.

Leading the brigade of glamorous gowns on the night, Michelle,34, was the epitome of elegance in a floor-length dress that still ensured she stood out from the crowd thanks to its vibrant tangerine hue.

While the frock mainly left Michelle’s figure to be imagined, the dress was a little risque as it featured sheer panels of fabric that ran in between her bust and along either side of her decolletage.

She exuded Hollywood glamour as her brunette tresses cascaded in retro waves around her face revealing her stunning $90,000 Tiffany & Co. diamond earrings, though the Downton Abbey actress injected a modern spin on the style by incorporating a metallic silver clutch bag into the look.

Flying the flag, or the Union Jack, for the British men were the acting heavyweights at her side Damian and Tom , both of whom were sharp-suited for the occasion.

Before catching up with Michelle at the Bloomberg & Vanity Fair Cocktail Reception, Damian had made his own way into the presidential dinner, with the Homeland star walking the red carpet without the company of his wife Helen McCrory.

Great Expectations: An Interview with Helen McCrory – August 25, 2006

Drama Queen

by Lydia Slater | Evening Standard Magazine | August 25, 2006

Perched on a velvet sofa in the elegant sitting room of the Cheyne Walk Brasserie, Helen McCrory strokes her Stella McCartney-clad stomach and smiles under heavy eyelids, rather like the cat who’s got the cream. As well she might. Life has never seemed to be particularly tough for McCrory, 37, who has been winning plaudits for her acting ever since she took her first role in the National Theatre’s production of Trelawney of the Wells, and who is constantly tipped as the next Judi Dench.

But even by her own high standards, the future is looking pretty rosy. She is eight months pregnant with her first child, and has an unnervingly perfect celebrity bump – no fat ankles or swollen face, just a watermelon at the waistline and a correspondingly magnificent bronzed cleavage. “I’ve never worn so many low-cut dresses in my life. If I could just wear spangles, I would. I feel so amazingly attractive,” she gurgles throatily, with total justice if our young waiter’s saucer eyes are anything to go by.

McCrory doesn’t appear to notice him but then if you’re engaged to Damian Lewis, star of The Forsyte Saga and Band of Brothers (and arguably the sexiest redhead on the planet), waiters probably come rather low in the pecking order. “I’ve never been broody before, but when I met Damian I became very different about relationships,” she says.
