Damian Lewis Co-Hosts The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Historical Milestone of a British Monarch

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | May 15, 2022

More than 500 horses and 1,000 performers took part in a 90-minute programme for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration, marking the momentous occasion of 70 years on the throne. She officially hit the milestone back on February 6th, with celebrations happening throughout 2022. A variety of stage stars took part in the televised theatrical arena event, broadcast on ITV and ITV Hub from the grounds of Windsor Castle in Berkshire on May 15, 2022, as Britbox North America live streamed the event to viewers in the United States and Canada. The event took place from 8:00 p.m. to about 10:40 p.m. local UK time.

Helen Mirren took on the role of Elizabeth I (fitting, given she played Elizabeth II on stage) alongside Omid Djalili as The Herald, a character who introduces a cast of Queen’s Players, in the first of four acts charting the modern history of the nation. Damian Lewis opened the evening (video below), and Tom Cruise and Adjoa Andoh all served as hosts for the other acts. Musical guests included Gregory Porter, Maureen Lipman, Katherine Jenkins of Wales who sang Calon Lan and David Jason at various intervals throughout the night. Each act reflected on key moments in history, including Elizabeth I’s Tilbury Speech and James I and the Gunpowder Plot.

The Reason I Jump and Dream Horse

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | October 7, 2021

‘The Week’ UK has recently published their best drama films of 2021 and I noticed not one, but two that Damian Lewis either starred in or advocated for charity in this top 35 list.

Back on January 25 of this year we reported that Damian conducted an online talk with Director Jerry Rothwell, author David Mitchell (who co-translated Higashida’s book) and producer Stevie Lee for an illuminating conversation about the making of the extraordinary documentary film, The Reason I Jump. Ticket proceeds of the virtual event went to the charity 92nd Street Y to help sustain their community organization and support the creation of new, online educational programming in literature, culture and the arts, as they were facing tremendous financial loss due to CoVid-19.  You can view photos of that online event in our Gallery here.

At the age of 13, Naoki Higashida wrote The Reason I Jump, about his experience as a nonspeaking autistic child. Now, director Jerry Rothwell has adapted Higashida’s book into an award-winning documentary – an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of nonspeaking autistic people from around the world. The film blends Higashida’s revelatory insights into autism with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people. It opens a window for audiences into an intense and overwhelming, but often joyful, sensory universe. Continue reading The Reason I Jump Discussion – Jan 25, 2021

Damian Returns to Host ‘Have I Got News For You’ – Sept 22, 2020

Seventh Time at the Helm

by Emma Kelly | Metro | September 22, 2020

Have I Got News For You is returning to its studio for its 60th series.

Series 59 of the long-running panel show was filmed virtually, from the panellists’ respective homes during lockdown.

However, the upcoming series, which will mark the show’s 30th anniversary, will be back in the studio, and hopefully with the reintroduction of a studio audience.

The audience at Riverside Studios in Hammersmith will be socially distanced and at a reduced capacity, while there are plans to have a second socially distanced audience watching the record from a separate screening room, with this audience’s live reactions being used to recreate the impact of a full audience.

While the audience is reduced, though, there has been no scrimping on the star power.

The first episode of the 60th series will be hosted by Homeland star Damian Lewis, who is returning for his seventh time at the helm.

Comedian Josh Widdicombe and journalist Katy Balls will be joining regular team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop as guest panellists, as the show marks three decades since Have I Got News For You’s launch on the BBC in 1990.

According to BBC 1 website here, episode one of the 60th series will air Friday, October 2, 2020 at 21:00 p.m.
