God Speed, Your Majesty

We join those around the world in mourning the loss of Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II, whose strong sense of duty and dedication to public service was always an inspiration. Our deepest sympathies to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning British monarch, marking 70 years on the throne. Buckingham Palace confirmed she passed away at the Royal residence of Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Damian has been in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II several times. He has made the Queen’s birthday honors list twice now – once honored with an OBE at the 2014 investiture ceremony and soon to be honored with a CBE at the 2022 investiture ceremony – he co-hosted the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration back in May of this year at Windsor Castle and provided narration for The Music of Kings and Queens album out earlier this year in celebration of her 95th birthday. Damian was once asked who his favorite member of the Royal Family was, his answer here, and he shared this memory of the Queen as well:

by Jake Kanter | Deadline | February 26, 2021
Prince Harry has become one of the first major royals to pass comment on The Crown after the show has grown into a cultural phenomenon for Netflix.
In an interview with James Corden on CBS’s The Late Late Show, the Duke of Sussex admitted that he has watched Left Bank Pictures’ lavish series, and said it provides a window on the pressures that come with being a British royal.
On Tuesday 13th October, actor and producer, Damian Lewis, best known for his appearances in Band of Brothers, Billions and Homeland, joined Simon Mayo to speak about his experiences as an Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust.
“To work with a charity that was targeting very specifically young people in this country, and grabbing them at the point where they might take a wrong turning, or might have just taken a wrong turning, but, it’s still an opportunity to steer them back on the right course, was brilliant.”
Lewis also spoke of Leon McGhie, who was awarded the Prince’s Trust Homesense Young Achiever award in 2019, who had his head turned through gang culture, and had been stabbed 5 times. “He approached the Prince’s Trust, took on their course which is called Team, not realising that the course was delivered by the MET police, and he turned his life around.”
On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, Damian and Helen, among other celebrity ambassadors, attended the Prince’s Trust reception event last night at St. James’s Palace, London in support of the Youth Can Do It campaign. Hosted by HRH Prince Charles, it was a chance for the Prince’s Trust to thank all the Ambassadors who have supported them throughout the years. What an incredible bunch!
No matter what their background, young people can achieve incredible things. Despite lives stifled by unemployment, homelessness, being in care or being in trouble with the law, young people can succeed with help. Without the right support, those from the most challenging backgrounds might never achieve their potential. The Prince’s Trust community gives vulnerable young people the chance to build a life for themselves and funds help to train, mentor and support them to build their skills and confidence.
