Wolf Hall meets Shades of Grey

Damian Lewis and Jamie Dornan talk Golf

At the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland this past October, we had a chance to talk golf with a couple of actors: Jamie Dornan, who stars in the uber-hyped movie “Fifty Shades of Grey,” scheduled for release in February; and Damian Lewis, who starred in the hit TV series “Homeland” and the award-winning World War II miniseries “Band of Brothers.” Dornan, 32, is from Holywood in Northern Ireland, the same hometown as world No. 1 Rory McIlroy. Lewis, 43, is from London. Dornan and Lewis played together in the pro-am portion of the Dunhill.

GD: Who were your golf idols growing up?

Lewis: Seve Ballesteros, obviously, was always very exciting to watch when I was a kid. Sir Nick Faldo was winning a lot for us at the time. Sandy Lyle for his 7-iron out of a fairway bunker to win the Masters in ’88. I liked a lot of the big players.

Dornan: Darren Clarke was huge for me. He’s from where I come from, and a few more boys from that part of the world are flying the flag now like Padraig Harrington, who I played with today, which was an absolute treat.

Vogue Interview with Damian and Helen – Jan 20, 2015

No Place Like Homeland

by Staff | Vogue | January 20, 2015

“Do you know, I think you might wear a suit better than any man I’ve ever met.” In the intimate and strangely forbidden confines of a lift at the National Theatre, Helen McCrory’s heavily made-up hazel eyes are drinking in her husband’s tall, tailored frame.

“Thank you,” he replies, faintly awkwardly, looking down at the same Tom Ford tuxedo he wore to accept the best actor Emmy award only last month. “Does this mean you want me to do all the washing-up for a week?”

A gypsy laugh bubbles up from deep inside McCrory’s tiny dancer’s body.

“No, my darling, of course not! Just the bedtime stories…”

Vanity Fair British Invasion Photoshoot

Stunning shots of the many actors who have crossed the pond and made it big on screens in the US. The pages in the magazine were lovely, but the video and short film accompanying the shoot was to die for.

Then a short film in three parts:

Damian Lewis reveals the unlikely inspiration behind his portrayal of Henry VIII

by Hannah Furness and Gaby Wood – The Telegraph – 21 January 2015

As he plays a handsome Henry VIII, pacing his palaces as he negotiates a split with Rome, one might have thought Damian Lewis would turn to the history books for assistance.

But the actor has disclosed an unusual inspiration for his part in Wolf Hall: The Duke of Cambridge and his brother, Prince Harry.

“Henry [VIII] as a brand, is right up there with Coca Cola,” Damian Lewis said, of the oft-portrayed Tudor king he plays in PBS’s six-part miniseries Wolf Hall.  “My vanity will always relish a challenge,” Lewis said, of trying to turn in a fresh performance of the historical figure. “In fact, that probably encourages me.”

Not so fresh, maybe, were his answers to question about his character, on stage this morning at Winter TV Press Tour 2015; his “syphilitic, philandering Elvis” line, in re how Henry VIII is most often perceived/portrayed, is getting a little worn out as Lewis make the press rounds to promote the project.
