Billions Season 4 Trailer: From Nemeses to Partners in Crime

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | January 21, 2019

My earlier “What to Expect When We are Expecting Billions Season 4” post was based on my own thoughts and a few hints from the  “You gotta pick sides” teaser for the new season. The recently dropped official Season 4 trailer and the new “An American Oligarch” teaser, while answering a question or two I had, make me ask hundred more.

We all know they edit trailers so they do not give away much but a taste of what is coming. Still, I cannot help dive deep into the trailer, dissect it, try to put the pieces together and ultimately have fun! Speculation rocks until we have Billions back on TV on March 17 9:00PM ET/PT. So shall we?

Some Enemies Make the Best of Friends – Jan 16, 2019

Billions Has Become Something of an Obsession…”

by  Kevin Yedman | Screenrant | January 15, 2019

Season 4 of Showtime’s Billions is just around the corner, and the new full trailer suggests Axe and Chuck will be making deals to ensure their enemies pay dearly. One of the most consistently entertaining series on television, Billions has become something of an obsession for a portion of its audience, as every season seems to raise the bar in terms of the level of its central characters’ audacity, while the series itself seems intent on upending viewers’ expectations with surprising twists, like the season 3 team-up between Chuck (Paul Giamatti), Axe (Damian Lewis), and Wendy (Maggie Siff).

That deviation from the show’s initial premise — that U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades was going to use the considerable power at his disposal to bring shady hedge fund manager Bobby “Axe” Axlerod to justice — gave the series new legs last season, and from the look of what’s ahead in season 4, series showrunners Brian Koppelman and David Levien will be using those legs to run their characters into uncharted territory. What kinds of storylines that will bring remains to be seen, but it looks as though the upcoming season will make great use of its strange bedfellows.

71 TV Shows We Can’t Wait to See in 2019 – Jan 4, 2019

Conspicuous Excess

by Matt Zoller Seitz | Vulture | January 4, 2019

The year ahead promises to be a pivotal one for the TV industry: HBO is charting a path into its post–Game of Thrones future with a flurry of high-profile adaptations; Netflix will face serious challenges from a trio of new streaming services by Disney, Apple, and WarnerMedia; and the march of Hollywood’s A-list to the small screen has burst into a full-on sprint. In other words, there’s a ton of great television coming in the next 12 months. Here’s our obsessive guide to the shows we’re most excited to see in 2019, arranged in chronological order by premiere date. Happy watching!

Billions Season Four (Showtime, March 17)

When it returns this year, Brian Koppelman and David Levien’s show about conspicuous excess will jump off from a high point of palace intrigue: The chief antagonists who had driven the show up to now, hedge-funder Bobby “Axe” Axelrod (Damian Lewis) and U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti), were both pushed out of their respective kingdoms by younger and more treacherous rivals (Asia Kate Dillon’s chief investment officer Taylor Mason, and Clancy Brown’s U.S. attorney general Waylon “Jock” Jeffcoat).

The Best TV Shows of 2018 – Dec 13, 2018

Billions Makes the List!

by Ben Yakas | The Gothamist | December 13, 2018

In 2016, over 400 television shows were aired or released. In 2018, that number has jumped to at least 555, which we know thanks to this handy spreadsheet made by Liz Shannon Miller. The Netflix-ification of television is truly upon us: the networks have a desperate desire to compete with the streaming giant, and they’re doing so either by throwing every idea against the wall and hoping it finds an audience, or by launching their own streaming services… with limitless capacities for more content.

And television isn’t just exponentially growing with new programming—any show with any sort of core fanbase could be brought back to life as a reboot (Murphy Brown, Charmed, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), spin-off (The Connors, Young Sheldon), or whatever hybrid monstronsity Kevin Can Wait turned into became before it was mercifully cancelled. There are over 20 more such zombie shows coming in the next year, with unlikely reboots of Conan the Barbarian, Gone Baby Gone and…The Bone Collector? Like the Greyjoys are found of saying: “What Is Dead May Never Die” (also, “Shut Up, Theon”).

The Biggest Questions for Showtime’s ‘Billions’ Heading Into Season 4 – Dec 11, 2018

Axe’s Fury – Axe’s Gauntlet

by Eric Schaal | Cheat Sheet | December 11, 2018

In some ways, the ending to Season three of Showtime’s Billions was unthinkable. How could Chuck Rhoades, the U.S. attorney who entire existence seems based on the power of his office, proceed without a job? Yet shortly after his downfall, we find him sipping wine with his wife and former arch-nemesis Bobby Axelrod.

Rhoades, played by Paul Giamatti, seems awfully comfortable sharing a bottle with Axe at his table. The same can be said of Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis. After his hedge fund’s star employee launched a rival operation, Axe needed to regroup.

This setup leaves open so many possibilities for the show’s Season four, which arrives in 2019 with at least one new cast member.  The Hollywood Reported revealed Samantha Mathis is joining the cast of the show for Season four. Mathis will play the chief operating officer (COO) of the recently formed Taylor Mason Capital.

Here are the biggest questions for the show and its characters ahead of the upcoming season:

Bobby Axelrod is Getting His Own Slot Machine – Sept 19, 2018

Jackpot!

by Christopher Palmeri | Bloomberg | September 19, 2018

Bobby Axelrod, the fictional hedge-fund manager in the Showtime series Billions, is getting his own slot machine — something Gordon Gekko could only dream of. The high stakes world of the hit TV show Billions will soon be coming to casinos, thanks to a licensing agreement between Aristocrat, CBS Consumer Products, and Showtime Networks.

The game will feature the popular Mighty Cash™ feature, as well as a $500,000 progressive start-up jackpot, according to a statement Wednesday. It will be unveiled in booth #1141 at the Global Gaming Expo (G2E), the casino industry trade show that begins October 8 in Las Vegas.

According to Markets Business Insider,

“The Billions Slot Game is based on Season 1 and 2, which includes fans’ favorite characters such as Chuck RhoadesBobby AxelrodWendy RhoadesLara Axelrod, and Taylor Mason.

The game appears on Aristocrat’s revolutionary flame55™ cabinet. The flame55 is complete with a 55″ double-curved HD monitor – the largest portrait double-curved display in the non-jumbo segment – ergonomic engineering, 4k-capable display, 2.1 stereo audio, individually controlled dynamic infinity edge LED lighting, a virtual button deck, and an exclusive beacon sign package.

While the slot-machine industry has licensed movies and TV shows for decades, manufacturers and casinos often opted for older titles that appealed to the typically more mature players on casino floors.

Billions Adds New Character to Season 4 – Aug 27, 2018

A New COO for TM Capital

by Rick Porter | The Hollywood Reporter | August 27, 2018

Taylor Mason Capital is getting some reinforcement in the fourth season of Showtime’s Billions.

Samantha Mathis (The Strain) has joined the series for a season-long arc. She’ll play Sara Hammon, the new COO of Taylor Mason Capital. She’s brought on board by Taylor (Asia Kate Dillon) to help run the newly formed company and protect it — and Taylor — from Axe’s (Damian Lewis) aggression.

Taylor likely has good reason to be concerned, as the third-season finale saw the character leaving Axe Capital to start a new firm — with a few billion dollars in capital Axe thought was headed his way.

Billions: Integrating Mental Health, Finance, Silicon Valley Industries and Law and Order, with a Little Yonkers-Secret-Recipe-Pizza

by Anna Kornbluh | Los Angeles Review of Books | August 24, 2018

Ten years ago, the collapse of Lehman Brothers triggered the global financial crisis of 2008. Democrats were eight years in power, and their failure to prosecute the corporate criminals behind the crisis surely ranks as their biggest legacy. That failure was the condition of possibility for the anti-elite narrative that inspired the white working class and the white upper class to support a genuinely fascist insurgency before and beyond November 2016. It was also the condition of possibility for Billions.

Across its three seasons on Showtime, Billions explores the aftermath of Lehman’s and Obama’s 2008 peaks, tracking the waning and waxing faculty of elite professionals to steer their careers and helm the most powerful country in the world. The show is built around an extended parallel between outer-borough upstart Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis), principal of the wildly fruitful hedge fund Axe Capital, and Manhattan WASP Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti), US Attorney for the New York Southern District and hero of a counterfactual recent past in which 81 bankers and traders were successfully prosecuted for their outlaw engineering of toxic asset slides. Rhoades fancies himself a just warrior, fighting against “[these] Teflon corporations that defraud the American people on a grand scale.” As the series opens he levels his gaze at Axe, the Moby-Dick of parkour finance.
