Damian Lewis: Financial Times Interview – April 5, 2019

The ‘Billions’ star on schooldays with David Cameron, playing conflicted characters — and rumours of 007

by Janan Ganesh | Financial Times | April 5, 2019

“What am I?” demands Damian Lewis, in the Yonkers vowels of Bobby Axelrod, the hedge fund manager he plays in Billions. “Chopped liver?” We have not fallen out. It is the presence of the item on the menu that sets up his riff on the Americanism.

The actor you also know as a Renaissance king (Wolf Hall) and an al-Qaeda convert (Homeland) is seated under a wall-mounted ram’s head in Fischer’s, a portal into antiquated Mitteleuropa on London’s Marylebone High Street, where it all but heckles the modernities around it. From a room that suggests an Orient Express dining carriage, Lewis looks out on to a Diptyque, an Aesop and a Bang & Olufsen as I ask him why British actors do so well in America. “It’s luck, it’s innate, it’s a bit of hard work,” he guesses. “It’s nothing to do with being classically trained.”

He admires Christian Bale (“There’s something quite extreme innately in him”) and vies with Tom Hiddleston and Idris Elba in the bookies’ guesswork as to the next James Bond. Politely, he smiles through my thesis that Brits grow up hearing more accents than almost any other nation, honing an ear for them that amounts to a thespian advantage. If he is not quite sold, he is at least open to the idea of performance as a national trait. “Is there a clown in the British character that there isn’t in America? I think there is. There’s a clown in us somewhere.”

Premier League Clubs and Their Most Famous Celebrity Fan – Oct 13, 2018

Liverpool Football Club Has a Fan for Life

by Ted Winters | The Sports Daily | October 12, 2018

Celebrities often get behind and endorse their chosen sports team on a regular basis that provides a wealth of additional exposure that can only go down as a major marketing boost.

But which of the top five Premier League clubs has the biggest fan to help pack the ultimate marketing punch?

Liverpool

Liverpool can boast a plethora of famous supporters (Liam Neeson, Lana Del Rey, Mike Myers) all around the world but probably the hottest right now is Damian Lewis.

The actor can be seen everywhere at the moment and refuses to keep his colours close to his chest often spotted at Anfield when he gets the chance.

Manchester United

It turns out that singer, actor, dancer and ladies man Justin Timberlake is a fan of the Red Devils.

The former NSYNC star is often captured sporting a Manchester United beanie and quite simply due to his huge following can attract millions of eyes upon the red club of Manchester.

Although the Red Devils following is huge, any extra little help is never a bad thing.

Manchester City

Without doubt the Citizens most vocal supporter is former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher.

His brother Liam is also a stanch City fan, but it is Noel who is often spotted at the Etihad stadium and is a regular on sports radio shows chatting about his beloved club and heaping praise on the current crop under manager Pep Guardiola.

Damian Attends UEFA Champions League Final – May 26, 2018

This Billions Star is a Well-Known Red

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | May 26, 2018

No surprise, as we reported yesterday, that Damian would attend the 2018 UEFA Champions League final today, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine in support of his favorite football team, Liverpool, in the LFC vs. Real Madrid match. Damian posted this video to Twitter as he boarded the plane headed to Kyiv.

Damian has been a longtime fan of LFC since childhood – he took part in the coverage at Anfield for the first leg of Liverpool’s Champions League tie with Manchester City on April 4 and last year he celebrated his 46th birthday at Anfield for Liverpool’s visit of Tottenham.

An avid Reds supporter, Damian (pictured with Clive Owen above) made the epic journey to Kyiv in the hope of being witness to a historic battle to take the UEFA Champions League trophy for the sixth time. But it wasn’t meant to be. Although his Redmen lost to Real Madrid 3-1 and no doubt he was gutted, Damian showed resilience in defeat by offering sportsmanship for his team and fans abroad. See fan pics on the next page and follow the gallery link.

Liverpool face Real Madrid in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final on Saturday, May 26 at NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine as the club football season draws to a close. The two European heavyweights last met in UEFA’s showpiece event in 1981, at the Parc des Princes in Paris. Five-time winners Liverpool will be aiming to repeat that triumph! Here is a little MOM “We’ve got Salah” Reds chant by Damian himself as he heads to the title match:

Damian Celebrates 46th Birthday at Anfield for Liverpool’s Visit of Tottenham – Feb 11, 2017

Damian Celebrates 46th Birthday at Anfield for Liverpool’s Visit of Tottenham

Hollywood star Damian Lewis returned to his Homeland on Saturday as he visited his beloved Anfield for Liverpool’s game against Tottenham.

The Billions star is a well-known Red, and the London-born actor was in attendance as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds prepared to entertain Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs .

However, after Will Ferrell’s appearance coincided with a 3-2 defeat to Swansea last month and the end of a 12-month unbeaten home streak, fans will be hoping Lewis’ visit proves rather more fruitful for Klopp’s men.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the red-haired Lewis holds an affinity for one of the most famous gingers in the Reds’ history, ‘Supersub’ himself, David Fairclough.
