Mary Queen of Scots New York Premiere and Afterparty – Dec 4, 2018

Was He or Wasn’t He?

by Gingersnap | Page Six | December 4, 2018

Well, there are no pictures available but we now have two outlets reporting Damian attended the Mary Queen of Scots premiere and afterparty on Tuesday, December 4. Here are the details:

Focus Features and the Cinema Society hosted the New York premiere of Mary Queen of Scots at the Paris Theater.

The film, based on the book Queen of Scots: The True Life of Mary Stuart by John Guy, opens on the scene of Mary’s beheading at Fotheringhay Castle on February 8, 1587. Queen of France at 16 and widowed at 18, Mary returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne. When Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth (Margot Robbie), each young Queen beholds her “sister” in fear and fascination. Rivals in power and in love, and female regents in a masculine world, the two must decide how to play the game of marriage versus independence. Betrayal, rebellion, and conspiracies within each court imperil both thrones – and change the course of history.

Following the screening, guests including Claire Danes, Hugh Dancy, Damian Lewis, Valentino, Sara Sampaio, Gus Kenworthy, Mamie Gummer, and Candace Bushnell joined the cast for an afterparty at Tavern on the Green.

Damian Lewis Does the Time Warp with Leo & Co. in New Tarantino Film – Nov 27, 2018

Hollywood Don’t Make Films Like They Used To!

by Ross King | Sunday Post | November 27, 2018

Dressing rooms have been replaced by trailers, expensive locations are now green screen – and the gin and tonics have been replaced by avocado and matcha salads.

But the latest movie by Quentin Tarantino is taking a leaf out of old Hollywood’s book.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is a violent crime thriller based on the Manson Family Murders in the ’60s. It features Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and British star Damian Lewis, who plays legendary actor Steve McQueen.

I bumped into Damian at the BAFTA Britannia Awards and he told me he loved working with the Pulp Fiction director.

Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood Update – July 24, 2017

First Look at Transforming Hollywood Boulevard Back to the 1960’s

by Chris Nicolas | LA Magazine | July 19, 2018

About one year from today, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will hit theatres. Firm plot details are mostly being kept under wraps right now, but is rumoured to be split into thematic chapters in the style of Pulp Fiction – the story will take place in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969 at the height of hippy Hollywood when the Charles Manson cult was wreaking havoc. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor Sharon Tate, of the famed Manson Family murders. Even though the movie will deal with Charles Manson and the famed Manson Family murders, it’s been made clear that particular subject matter won’t be the main focus.

Damian has been cast in a small role as Steve McQueen but in what capacity, we do not know. For starters, the inclusion of Bruce Lee and Steve McQueen in the film is connected. Both actors were clients of Jay Sebring, a world-renowned hair stylist who was a major fixture in 1960’s Los Angeles. Sebring was known for bringing European hair techniques to America and he established a name for himself when he popularized the feathering and layering of male hair, which was dubbed the “Sebring Look.” Sebring helped Bruce Lee find work teaching kung fu to Hollywood stars, including Steve McQueen and Roman Polanski.

L to R: McQueen, Tate, Polanski

History states McQueen is said to have been invited by Jay Sebring to Sharon Tate’s (Roman Polanski’s wife) house dinner party, but he no-showed. Preparing to attend the dinner, McQueen ran into a female friend and decided to spend the evening with her instead. That night in 1969 would become one of the most notorious in modern American history: Tate and Sebring, along with two of their friends and Tate’s unborn child, were brutally murdered by the followers of Charles Manson. Spending the evening with his female friend saved McQueen’s life. His close call with death spooked him so bad that he went into a state of paranoia. His then-wife Neile Adams recalled that, after the murders, McQueen “became more paranoid and wouldn’t let me go anywhere without a gun.”

The facade of Jay Sebring’s former salon on Fairfax Ave in West Hollywood is being rebuilt. Sebring (Hirsch) reinvented the men’s haircut and the very image of a hairstylist. He was young and handsome and dated gorgeous actresses, including at one time, Sharon Tate. In the late ’60s, he owned a salon on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax that attracted a long list of celebrity clients, including Steve McQueen and Bruce Lee.  At the time, barbers charged around $1.50 for a haircut, but a session with Sebring could cost up to $25.

As we wait for more information about Damian’s role as McQueen, let’s take a peek at additional set photos that are surfacing, as Los Angeles has been transported back in time. Store fronts, bus benches, theater marquee signs, billboards, neon signs and murals along Hollywood Boulevard and other West Hollywood thoroughfares have been gussied up to re-ceate the groovy, psychedelic era of the 60’s.

Damian To Play Steve McQueen – June 6, 2018

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood‘ Adds Damian Lewis

by Mike Fleming Jr | Deadline | June 6, 2018

EXCLUSIVE: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in America has added to its cast of characters wandering about in Los Angeles at the time Charles Manson’s Sharon Tate murders.  The Sony picture has brought aboard Damian Lewis, Luke Perry, Emile Hirsch, Dakota Fanning, Clifton Collins Jr, Al Pacino, Keith Jefferson and Nicholas Hammond in supporting roles for a lineup that already includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Burt Reynolds, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Madsen and Tim Roth.

As befits a Tarantino film, the casting intrigues: Lewis will play Hollywood’s handsome ‘King of Cool’ and iconic actor Steve McQueen; Fanning is set as Squeaky Fromme, the Manson disciple who later tried to assassinate President Gerald Ford; Hammond will play director Sam Wanamaker; and Hirsch is Jay Sebring, the Hollywood hairstylist who was one of four victims in the Tate murders on Cielo Drive.

Charles Finch and Chanel Pre-BAFTA Dinner Party

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | February 17, 2018

Looks like the pre-BAFTA parties continue as we see Damian and Helen arriving at the annual Charles Finch and Chanel pre-BAFTAs dinner party at the Mark’s Club in Mayfair, London on Saturday evening, February 17, 2018. The usual mariachi band greeted Finch’s guests at the dinner, as it has for the last 19 years.  Held the night before the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards, Finch’s annual dinners have become the stuff of after-dark legend, as the event calls on the industry’s talent to celebrate British film before the awards ceremony tomorrow night. Other stars who flocked to Mayfair venue included Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger, and actors Hugh Grant, Kristin Scott Thomas and Margot Robbie.

View video below of Damian arriving at the pre-BAFTA awards dinner party, also featuring Gillian Anderson and Greta Gerwig.
