The Billions Dictionary – March 7, 2019

From Axe Cap to Ice Juice: The Showtime Billions Dictionary

by Miles Surrey | The Ringer | March 7, 2019

Showtime/Ringer illustration

Before the new season begins, it might be helpful to get familiar with the language and learn, for example, what a Dollar Bill really is.

For anyone who hasn’t been already initiated into the Cult of Billions—also known in some circles as House of Wags—the idea of starting Showtime’s financial drama series might be a little intimidating. The show does, after all, focus on a hedge fund manager, a U.S. attorney, and a great deal of financial jargon that might come across like a foreign language. But all the finance speak serves as a helpful, necessary tone-setter for a perpetually entertaining dick-swinging contest between two hot-headed dudes that takes a ton of casualties.

For those looking for a Billions refresher before the fourth season premieres March 17, or for anyone seeking a helpful reference guide as they dive headfirst into a binge, I present the Billions Dictionary: a glossary of financial terminology, company names, abbreviations, and other essential tidbits to get the most out of your viewing experience. Sit back, treat yourself to a serving of ortolan, short some Ice Juice, and enjoy.

Damian Lewis Back in Billions – March 6, 2019

What is Acting for Damian?

Tribune News Service I The Sacramento Bee I March 5, 2019

Damian Lewis and Paul Giamatti will be jousting again when Showtime brings back “Billions” for another season on March 17. Giamatti plays the brilliant U.S. Attorney and Lewis is his nemesis, a hedge-fund tycoon.

For the British Lewis, who earned American cred when he costarred in in “Band of Brothers”, says acting for him “is a combination of fulfilling your sensory self and your intellectual self. It accommodates both very well. And I enjoy bringing the physical and  intellectual and spiritual together. I find acting is often quite a meditative thing to do. It’s quite therapeutic. It’s much easier being someone else than it is yourself,” he says.

“I come from a tradition where I believe acting is the inverse of lying.  It’s not lying and trickery. It’s truth and honesty and sincerity. You occupy an alternative reality, and you commit to that reality utterly and honestly, and that’s what will be conveyed to an audience if you do it right.”

Ten TV Shows You Should Binge-Watch This March – March 4, 2019

Binge Billions Season 3 To Prep for Season 4

by Benjamin Lindsay | Rotten Tomatoes | March 4, 2019

These 10 series are just the thing to bring you from winter to spring this March, whether you are craving wars between gods, unlikely romantic comedies, badly behaved rich folk, or the corrupt getting their due. Catch our monthly binge guide below.

BILLIONS 86% (SHOWTIME)

What it is: Showtime’s Billions dramatizes the high-stakes world of Wall Street when Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti), a U.S. attorney, sets his sights on bringing down hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Homeland‘s Damian Lewis) for insider trading and other illegal proclivities. Talk about one-percenters.

Why you should watch it: Giamatti has built a career on playing the everyman, and here, he’s fighting for him. The actor’s turn as the hard-hitting U.S. attorney would be reason alone to watch (scenes of surprise BDSM and all), but Billions also boasts a timely, engrossing premise and firecracker performances from Lewis, Maggie Siff, Condola Rashad, and a bevy of other supporters that meet Giamatti mark for mark. Season 4 premieres March 17.

Where to watch it: Amazon, FandangoNow, Google Play, Hulu, Vudu

Commitment: Approx. 36 hours

Rolling Stone: Best TV To See in March – Feb 27, 2019

The Rich and Soulless

by Charles Bramesco | Rolling Stone | February 27, 2017

From FX’s bloodsucker sitcom to the most controversial music doc in decades — your must-see TV guide for the month!

Billions, Season 4 (Showtime, Mar. 17th)
Can it be true? After spitting every obscenity in the book — not to mention a few newly invented ones — at one another over the past three seasons, mortal nemeses Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) and Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) have reached a ceasefire. Oh, they’re only joining forces for the sake of revenge, mind you, against their common enemy: a preening, malicious magnate played by guest star John Malkovich. Still, this should be a nice, juicy season. Expect the lifestyles of the rich and soulless to reach a fresh high of excess (and, undoubtedly, scenery-chewing).

Sky Atlantic Sets UK Premiere Date for Billions Season 4 – Feb 27, 2019

Billions UK Premiere Date

by Patrick Munn | TV Wise | February 27, 2019

The fourth season of Billions will receive its UK premiere on Sky Atlantic on Wednesday March 20th at 9pm, it has been announced.

From Andrew Ross Sorkin, David Levien and Brian Koppelman, Billions is set amongst the Machiavellian machinations of New York City power politics & finance and follows two highly ambitious opposing figures: hard-charging, blue-blooded, politically connected U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and brilliant, calculating, blue-collar billionaire hedge fund king, Bobby “Axe” Axelrod . The drama series stars Paul Gaimatti, Damian Lewis, Maggie Siff, Asia Kate Dillon, Toby Leonard Moore, David Costabile, Condola Rashad, Kelly AuCoin, Jeffrey DeMunn and Malin Akerman. Samantha Mathis, Kevin Pollak, Jade Eshete and Nina Arianda guest star.

In the show’s fourth season, when everyone is out for revenge, no one is safe. Bobby Axelrod (Lewis) and Chuck Rhoades (Giamatti), former enemies, and Wendy Rhoades (Maggie Siff), the chief counselor to each, have come together to form an uneasy but highly effective alliance, aimed at the eradication of all their rivals, including Grigor Andolov (guest star John Malkovich), Taylor Mason (Asia Kate Dillon), Brian Connerty (Toby Leonard Moore) and Waylon “Jock” Jeffcoat (guest star Clancy Brown). Ambition and betrayal have long been at the heart of Billions, and this season all the characters find out exactly how high a price they’ll have to pay to satisfy those needs.

Some Billions Cast Visit Michter’s Whiskey Distillery – Feb 26, 2019

A Barrel of Fun

by Gingersnap | damian-lewis.com | February 26, 2019

Every Billions fan knows Michter’s Whiskey is a staple on the show. So why not step it up and visit the place that makes your cup runneth over?  It started last Saturday morning, February 23, 2019 when David Costabile (Wags), Kelly AuCoin (Dollar Bill Stearn), and Stephen Kunken (Ari Spyros) – all who play characters loyal to #TeamAxe on Showtime’s Billions – decided to take a trip to Michter’s Whiskey Distillery. David Costabile writes,

“You get on a plane and see if you can buy @michterswhiskey. Did we accomplish that?”

It seems they did just that! They toured the distillery, learned about the aging process, and sampled the product. I wonder if they brought back some whiskey for Bobby Axelrod?

According to their website, Michter’s Fort Nelson Distillery is in downtown Louisville. Located in the historic Fort Nelson building on Main Street, this distillery is home to a legendary historic distillation system. Here you will learn about all of the extra steps Michter’s takes throughout the whiskey production process to pursue our goal of producing the greatest American whiskey, from barreling at a lower entry proof, to toasting our barrels before charring and heat cycling our warehouses. Following the tour, you will taste five different Michter’s expressions before heading up to the bar, where your visit will conclude with a cocktail demonstration and a small cocktail sample.

View all the photos of their trip and tour here.

Catching Up with Damian on the Set of Billions Season 4 – Feb 25, 2019

It’s Tradition Now

by Damianista | Fan Fun with Damian Lewis | February 25, 2019

I personally promised several of you to write about my conversation with Damian when I caught up with him on Billions set back in December as soon as I come back from vacation. I have been buried under teaching and committee work and meetings since I came back that I have just been able to find some time to sit and write. And while it may be a while ago and that I do sometimes not remember what I had for dinner last night, I vividly remember my conversation with Damian 😀

This blog has had an interesting relationship with Billions. I launched the blog only two weeks before they started shooting the pilot in New York and I have been very lucky to catch up with Damian on the set once every season since. I do not know how many times you need to do a thing for it to become a tradition, but catching up with Damian on Billions set once a year certainly feels like a tradition now.

The day I “met” Bobby Axelrod on Billions pilot set, February 3, 2015, source: Damianista

And when I saw Billions signs on Park Avenue on a Saturday evening in December, I thought I could continue the tradition. The signs hint that they might shoot at an ultra fancy restaurant where I could easily imagine Axe eat with other billionaires, and was happy that I could continue the tradition.
